AS far as on-field hissy fits go, Wests Tigers forward Martin Taupau’s effort against the Melbourne Storm on Monday night was ... well ... embarrassing.
After losing the ball during a collision with the Storm defence in the 67th minute, Taupau slammed the ball into the turf in frustration.
The thing about those egg-shaped balls though is the bounce can be a little unpredictable and Taupau ended up copping the ball’s return trajectory bang on the nose.
Dominant Melbourne Storm have too much strikepower for outgunned Wests Tigers
Taupau isn’t the first person to attempt an on-field temper tantrum so, if you’re reading this Marty, this is how to do it properly.
Who could forget that young Penrith Panthers fan from last week who got so agitated on the sideline at his side’s loss to the Sharks a woman, possibly his mother, had to offer him a box of tissues.
Switching to tennis now, where numerous players are guilty of the old hissy fit. But you can’t go past John McEnroe’s “you cannot be serious” spray at umpire Ted James during his 1981 Wimbeldon first-round match against Tom Gullikson.
Social media lit up earlier this year after fiery Seattle Seahawks NFL cornerback Richard Sherman let fly in a post-match interview. Sherman took aim at an opposing player with this little gem: “I’m the best corner in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you gonna get.”
And once again, the children show us how it’s done. This kid had an epic meltdown at the Sydney Cricket Ground when a security guard gave a stray ball to another kid during the game between the L.A. Dodgers and Team Australia.
