REPLAY: Marsden SHS v Keebra Park in the Langer Cup

Keebra Park has bounced back from a shock loss last week in the best way possible, taking down school footy heavyweights Marsden 28-10. WATCH THE REPLAY HERE.

Marsden SHS v Keebra Park SHS

A Kade Hill masterclass proved the difference in Keebra Park’s decisive Allan Langer Cup win over Marsden SHS on Wednesday night.

The two sides shared top spot on the ladder and matched each other physically all evening.

But Bulldogs-contracted five-eighth Hill added a silky touch to Keebra Park’s game and constantly turned Marsden around with his short-kicking arsenal.

Hill had a hand in two tries and crossed for the match-sealer with six minute to play as the visitors ran out 28-10 victors.

The 18-point margin would irk Marsden, who started brilliantly and looked to capitalise on the late scratching of Keebra Park star Reece Walsh.

Halfback Konrad Tu’ua peeled off a 40-20 from the Mako’s opening set but early errors gave Keebra Park an easy exit and it wasn’t long before the Gold Coast powerhouse began to flex their muscle.

A deft grubber from Hill forced a goal-line dropout just four minutes later and when Brandon Ewing combined with twin brother Nelson to stretch the Marsden defence on the second tackle, there was space for Kahn Pereria to bust over for the game’s opening try two tackles later.

Tom Vickery backed up his sideline conversion with try of his own in the 12th minute, courtesy of a pin-point pass from halfback Nelson Ewing, and Vickery’s ensuing conversion suddenly had Marsden back-pedalling on their home track.

Makos enforcer TC Robati did his best turn the tide but momentum was well and truly with the visitors as Richard Ioane led the Keebra Park charge back downfield.

Another Hill kick forced yet another error and when Siosi Tonga hit a perfect unders line to crash over in the 16th minute, the visitors opened up an 18-0 lead.

Marsden needed a spark to get back into business and it came four minutes later in the form of Keenan Time.

Five-eighth Rixson Andrews made the most of a 55m set with a bouncing grubber that ricocheted off Hill into Timu’s hands and over the try line.

Tu’ua’s conversion draw the margin back to 12 and when skipper Tyrone Sa’U stormed 20m with four Keebra Park defenders clinging to his back, Ezra Teuila found enough space to scoot over and tighten the gap to 8.

Tu’ua tried to make up for the missed conversion with a 50m penalty attempt but the 18-10 scoreline held until halftime.

Sadly for Marsden, that would be the closest margin of the evening as Keebra Park launched out fo the sheds with renewed vigour.

The visitors held out four consecutive raids on their goal-line with winging Trey Peni starring in defence before a reversed penalty decision finally got them out of danger.

Prop TJ Smart lead the charge for keebra Park with a string of bruising runs and Marsden’s failure to find touch from a penalty kick in the 44th minute proved a killer blow.

Vickery dotted down for his second from the following set to restore the 12-point lead and when ill-discipline cost Marsden another attacking raid, the game was almost up.

Both sides butchered tries in the dying exchanges as Perera and Teulia cooked chances in-goal but Hill would make no mistake in the 55th minute, showcasing his pace after latching onto a Brandon Ewing pass and scoring his side’s fifth.
