THE Titans and Bulldogs clashed on the Gold Coast with both battling outfits desperate for victory. Here’s five things we learned from their match.
1. Jarryd Hayne’s reputation has been hammered this season and he has a lot of work to do to win back the support of NRL fans. Hayne was jeered with every touch and the crowd erupted when he made mistakes. Sacked coach Neil Henry won the public’s support during his feud with Hayne.
2. Ash Taylor produced one of the more bizarre moments in NRL history. Taylor cleaned up a grubber on his own line before passing the ball straight to Bulldogs winger Josh Morris, who only had to catch it and fall over the line to score.
3. The Titans have gone five straight games without scoring in the first half. Scoring points was not a problem for the Titans during the first three quarters of the season but they have lost a lot of their attacking ability.
4. Nathan Peats didn’t take long in his captaincy career to unload on the Titans. “It’s the same story the last six weeks,” Peats said during his halftime interview. “Giving away shitty last-tackle penalties and silly errors. We’re defending our arses off and are out on our feet. I’m just getting over it. We just need to improve.”
5. Jarrod Wallace may have played his last game for the Titans this season. Wallace hit Bulldogs halfback Moses Mbye late after he passed the ball in the 17th minute, forcing him from the field for the remainder of the game with concussion.
