WE’VE crunched the numbers and Tim Glasby’s State of Origin selection simply doesn’t add up.

TIM Glasby’s Origin selection doesn’t add up — and these are the stats to prove it.

The unheralded Storm prop was a shock selection in Queensland’s Origin overhaul, which featured seven changes.

However, going on 2017 numbers, the 28-year-old from Rockhampton was hardly banging down the door for selection.

Glasby ranks 133rd in the NRL for metres gained. At 77m per game, he makes the least metres of any running forward to take the field in Origin 2.

Axed Maroons forwards Jacob Lillyman (120m per game), Sam Thaiday (90m) and Aidan Guerra (87m) all average more, although Nate Myles (75m) averages less.

At 46 minutes per game, Glasby doesn’t command big minutes at the Storm.

In fact, forward teammates Felise Kaufusi, Kenny Bromwich, Jesse Bromwich, Dale Finucane and Tohu Harris all average more game time.

Glasby has busted eight tackles this year. Aaron Woods (6) and Nathan Peats (2) are the only players taking the field next Wednesday with less.

Coach Kevin Walters pointed to Glasby’s defence as the main reason he was picked, but he ranks around the Origin average for key defensive stats and isn’t significantly better than others on the field or those he replaced.

Glasby ranks 61st in the NRL for total tackles (300) and missed 17 for the year.

This is comparable to the average missed tackles (19) for forwards named for Origin 2.

Axed veteran Nate Myles (12) has missed less tackles this season, while Glasby’s record is only slightly better than dumped forwards Sam Thaiday (19), Aidan Guerra (21) and Jacob Lillyman (22).

“It’s no secret we got beat up through the middle, our forwards didn’t aim up, so we’ve made some changes there,” Walters said of his changes.

“We feel if our players can stand up in that area we have the class around those guys to get the result for Queensland.”
