Tigers forward David Klemmer may have played last game for the club as contract detail emerges

Tigers forward David Klemmer has been one of their most consistent players in recent years but he may have played his last game for the club.

Tigers leave Luai out of Eels trial

Benji Marshall’s Wests Tigers overhaul appears set to continue with former State of Origin prop David Klemmer reportedly on the outer. Klemmer is in the final year of his contract with the Tigers, although it is understood there is a player option in his contract to extend for another year if he plays at least 14 games in 2025.

However, that appears to be highly unlikely after the prop was left out of the squad for the final pre-season trial against the Eels this weekend.

Rumours about Klemmer’s future at the joint venture club went into overdrive last week after the 31-year-old was a late withdrawal from their opening trial against the Bulldogs last weekend.

The prop is not reportedly injured and there is understood to be no falling out at the club.

However, his late exclusion and subsequent omission from this week’s team suggests Marshall has lost faith in Klemmer.

Terrell May and Fonua Pole have been named to start in the front row against the Eels and new Sharks recruit Royce Hunt is on the bench.

And with no shortage of forward stocks at the club, Klemmer may have played his last game in Tigers colours.

Code Sports reports the Tigers even attempted to remove the option from his contract for 2026 but were unable to come to an agreement with Klemmer.

And now it is understood the club is willing to let him go as soon as he can strike a deal at another club.

Klemmer won’t be the only Tigers big name to sit out the club’s final trial against Parramatta.

Star recruit Jarome Luai will be kept on ice, while centre Justin Olam is still battling a knee injury.
