The NRL has issued an indefinite ban to the teenager alleged to have racially vilified South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell at Penrith stadium.
Mitchell was praised for reporting the matter, after allegedly being called a “black d.g” by a spectator as he left the field at halftime of the Rabbitohs‘ loss to the Panthers in round two.
It sparked both police and NRL investigations.
On Wednesday the NRL confirmed it had completed it’s investigation and issued the ban with a pledge that no vilification of any sort would be tolerated and the alleged perpretrator will also have to apologise.
“The NRL confirmed today it had issued a notice intending to ban a spectator from attending NRL events until such time as the young person can establish that sufficient steps have been taken to address their behaviour,” a league statement said.
“These steps will include apologising and completing appropriate training and education in respectful behaviour and cultural awareness.
“The NRL thanks Latrell Mitchell for reporting this matter and reaffirms that no form of vilification will be tolerated in rugby league.”
