The Broncos have hired bouncers following an influx of fans and the rise of the NRL rock star generation.

Security guards have been called into Red Hill to control a growing number of fans that descend on the club every day to watch training.

The fans are mostly well-behaved but some are regularly chasing autographs and photos with their heroes.

Working media have also reported run-ins with frustrated fans trying to catch a glimpse of the players.

New fences have been erected at the Clive Berghofer Centre and designated fan zones are in place to control the hordes of people, which ballooned into the thousands during last year’s run to the grand final.

Despite fighting to break an 18-year premiership drought, the Broncos have never been more popular.

The club has more than 60,000 members and players like Reece Walsh and Pat Carrigan have become so popular they are treated like rock stars in Brisbane.

While fans are welcome to watch training sessions, the growing number of them has prompted the Broncos to make moves to protect their players and ensure there is a positive environment.

The Broncos outsourced security during last year’s finals series and now they’ve contracted more bouncers, complete with club attire.

Security patrols the fields at Red Hill making sure no-one from the public enters or gets too close to the players without their knowledge.

Walsh is by far the most popular player in the NRL and is bombarded by requests.

He recently took to social media to blast rude fans demanding selfies.

“If you’re over 10 years old and especially if you’re a grown adult and you don’t use your manners when asking for a photo, don’t be shook when you get a no,” Walsh wrote.

“We are people at the end of the day, do (not) just expect these things!!

“I love getting photos and chatting to everyone but if you just put a phone in my face and demand a photo I won’t wanna do it!!

“Please and thank you goes a long way! Have a great day.”

Walsh received a personal escort from the old training field back to Broncos HQ on Wednesday by one of the guards to ensure he wasn’t hassled.
