Wests Tigers defeated by Gold Coast Titans: Five things we learned

JARRYD Hayne will only get better for the Titans, Ashely Taylor is tougher than he looks and can anyone explain the obstruction rule?

1. THE NRL will not see the best of Jarryd Hayne this season but he has plenty of tricks up his sleeve to showcase. Hayne does not have the fitness base to produce his scintillating magic but he showed he can be incredibly dangerous in other ways with his slick 30m field goal to win the game against the Tigers.

2. TITANS halfback Ashley Taylor is showing toughness beyond his years to play with the groin injury he is carrying. The 21-year-old removed himself from the goalkicking duties because it is putting too much strain on his groin which needs surgery at the end of the season. He has done well to play 19 games this season.

3. TITANS forwards David Shillington and Ryan James could be facing some time on the sidelines. Shillington tackled Mitchell Moses in the air and James left Tigers fullback James Tedesco with a possible broken jaw. It was an unfortunate tackle with Tedesco down low but James could still be in trouble.

4. NENE Macdonald will be a huge loss for the Titans if he signs a lucrative deal with the Dragons. Titans coach Neil Henry has extracted the best from “Big Mac” this season and it will be a shame for the Gold Coast if they lose him as he enters the prime of his career. He is an aerial threat and showed he is deceptively fast when he outran James Tedesco to score a 92m intercept.

5. IT is round 23 and the obstruction rule is still not clear. Tigers five-eighth Mitchell Moses was denied a try because Ava Seumanufagai was tackled by David Shillington. The Bunker claimed Seumanufagai initiated the contact in what was a bamboozling decision that could have gone either way.
