THE Titans have scored a recruitment coup with the Gold Coast securing Storm star Kevin Proctor to a $2 million deal.

The Courier-Mail revealed last week the Titans were on the verge of snaring Proctor as the club prepares for life after France-bound Greg Bird.

Now the Titans have got their man, with the Kiwi Test back-rower agreeing to a four-year deal tying him to the Coast until the end of 2020.

The Storm had salary-cap pressures and were happy to release Proctor from the final two years of his Melbourne deal.

“This is a great opportunity to return home to the Gold Coast with my young family to be closer to all of our family,” Proctor said.

“It has been a long process and I needed to feel comfortable with the decision as I have had a successful time at the Melbourne Storm and made some great friends, but now I am looking forward to joining Neil and the Titans players and contributing to the team’s success.”

Proctor will give the Titans a formidable back row as he prepares to join forces with former Maroons forward Chris McQueen.

The Tugun Seahawks junior has spent his entire NRL career with the Melbourne Storm, playing 179 games and winning the 2012 premiership.

As well as his stellar club career, the 27-year-old has also graced the international stage, playing 15 Tests for the Kiwis.

Titans coach Neil Henry is excited to have a player of Proctor’s calibre joining the club.

“Kevin is an international player that comes to the club with plenty of runs on the board,” Henry said.

“We’ve had some experienced players depart but Kevin will help fill that void and we’ll be looking for him to come in and lead the way, especially for the younger guys around him.

“As a seasoned international, Kevin will provide some real spark in attack and the kind of toughness in defence that every club needs.”

Chief Operating Officer Tony Mestrov is keen to see Proctor turn out for the Gold Coast region in which he was reared.

“Kevin is a player who has achieved so much in his playing career so far,” Mestrov said.

“He has been part of a successful system in Melbourne and he comes to the club at the peak of his game.

“He grew up on the Gold Coast and his partner is born and bred up here, so we they will immediately feel at home which will hopefully help Kevin play his best football.

“We are really pleased to secure Kevin’s services at the Titans as the club continues to build a formidable line-up capable of competing at the top level of the NRL.”
