NRL Integrity Unit advised of incident involving Titans’ Greg Bird at friend’s buck’s night

GREG Bird’s future at the Titans could be in jeopardy, with the star forward one of a number of Titans players under investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit.

It was revealed that the NRL was investigating Bird and a number of his teammates’ actions following an alleged physical altercation at a hotel in Brunswick Heads last weekend.

The Blues enforcer was out celebrating the buck’s weekend of teammate Anthony Don when the alleged incident occurred.

While it is yet to be determined if Bird has a case to answer, he was placed on his last warning by the club almost two years ago after he was fined for urinating near an unmarked police car.

If he is found guilty of any wrongdoing in this latest incident, it could spell trouble for his career at the Titans.

Gold Coast CEO Graham Annesley declined to comment on the forward’s future, saying he would not “prejudge the situation” or comment on whether Bird was on his last warning at the club.

He said he would wait until all the findings were released by the NRL.

However, Bird’s manager is adamant that the 31-year-old will “100 per cent” be playing for the Gold Coast next season.

Rumours have long circulated about Bird making an early exit from his Titans contract, with several clubs including Newcastle and Manly reportedly interested in his services.

But agent Chris Orr is assured Bird is not going anywhere, even in the face of this investigation.

“100 per cent,” Orr said of Bird’s chances of lining up for the Titans in 2017.

“He has got a contract and he enjoys the club, the coach and the players. I don’t see that changing.”

Orr also said his client had done nothing wrong in NSW last weekend.

“I have spoken to Greg and he has informed me that he was not involved in the incident being investigated and he was simply enjoying the company of his fellow Titans players down the Coast,” he said.

“I believe there is an investigation being conducted by the NRL and we will wait until it has been concluded before making any further comment.”

After a surprisingly promising season, the Gold Coast’s halo has dimmed a little with a number of off-field incidents since the Broncos knocked them out of the finals a fortnight ago.

Star recruit Jarryd Hayne was caught up in a controversial video with a bikie, and then rookie Karl Lawton was arrested and charged with assault after the club’s Mad Monday celebrations.
