Gold Coast Titans CEO Steve Mitchell remains unfazed by star forward David Fifita’s lack of action during the side’s 40-24 defeat to the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs.
The million dollar forward played just 31 minutes from the interchange bench despite being fully fit.
“He’s in good shape, he’s not injured and he’s in really good physical condition,” Mitchell said.
“I think Des (Hasler) spoke to it, he had a look at that early, it didn’t work out and he got the back end of the game in.
“They’ll review, they’ll go through the first review and go through all parts of the game and then come this weekend with a plan.
“It is all part of getting those early games away is just having a look at where you’re at (and) tightening it up.”
Despite the disappointing result, Mitchell believes Sunday night’s performance from the Titans will not be a reflection of the side for the rest of the season.
“I think there’s a lot of things there that are fundamentally building, little bit of time together, some real football together,” he said.
“So getting that one out of the road is important to roll into the start of the year.”
The importance of this weekend’s home clash with the Newcastle Knights was not lost on the playing group following the poor outing against the Bulldogs.
“This weekend’s really important, we need to show up and really go to work,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell has also has thrown his support behind the push to bring the NRL Magic Round to the Glitter Strip after Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate signified his intent to bring the event to the region.
“I think the Gold Coast is such a precinct for major events because we’ve got the accommodation and we’ve got everything that sits around that event,” Mitchell said.
“So you’ve got beaches and you’ve got our great theme parks and you’ve got all the other pieces that people can pull into.
“Any event that brings in large crowds over multiple days, Gold Coast is ideally suited to it.
“It would be super to have Magic Round here.”
