The Titans have suffered a huge blow with star hooker Nathan Peats tearing his pectoral muscle and facing up to 10 weeks on the sidelines.

In a disastrous build-up for Gold Coast’s clash with South Sydney at ANZ Stadium this Sunday, Peats suffered the injury at training on Friday and will have scans in the coming days to determine the extent of the damage.

Titans coach Garth Brennan will confirm Peats’ breakdown at his press conference on Friday afternoon.

The former NSW Origin hooker will miss at least six weeks but he could be out for a further month depending on results of the scans.

Peats tore his pec in his final weights session before the clash against the Souths club his father Geordi played for. It is understood the pec is not fully torn, giving Peats hope of a return this season.

It is another blow to the Titans’ playmaking spine, with coach Brennan having lost three of his four key shot-callers following injuries to star halves Ash Taylor (quad) and Tyrone Roberts (achilles).

Mitch Rein, originally named as 18th man, was set to be promoted to the interchange bench but he will now start at hooker to fill the Peats void.
