Could Jai Arrow’s injury open the door for Jarrod Wallace to make his NRL return?
1) Titans prop Jarrod Wallace has rocketed back into the Queensland Origin frame.
With his good mate Jai Arrow suffering an ankle injury, Wallace submitted his Maroons claims with a strong showing against the Warriors.
Axed for Origin I, Wallace charged for 164 metres from 21 runs in a formidable statement to Maroons selectors.
2) Queensland coach Kevin Walters faces a nervous 24 hours as he sweats on the fitness of Jai Arrow.
The Titans and Maroons ironman hobbled off in the 28th minute with an ankle injury and will have scans on Saturday.
With just eight days until Origin II, Arrow appears to be at long odds to play in Perth.
3) The Titans’ finals hopes are all but gone once again.
The Coast need to win at least nine of their last 10 games to make the top-eight and they aren’t consistent enough to achieve that.
The club faces an eighth finals fade out in nine years and in a results-driven business, coach Garth Brennan will soon enter the firing line.
4) The Titans need to find a harder edge as a club and some strike in attack. The Coast had twice as many tackles in the red zone as the Warriors (34 to 16) but simply couldn’t find the class to unlock the visitors. Until the Coast learn to win close games, they will never be a genuine top-four threat.
5) Ryley Jacks deserves a new contract. With star half Ash Taylor sidelined with mental-health issues, Jacks was solid in the No.7 jumper and showed fight to score a clever solo try.
The off-contract Jacks must be retained by the club.
