THEY’VE played plenty of footy together already but Wests Tigers duo Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses say they need more time before they fully gel as a halves pairing.

Stepping up to first grade under new coach Jason Taylor, and with new structures, Moses said he and Brooks were content to spend this season working out how best to lead the Tigers around the park.

If Moses and Brooks fire in front of a big crowd at Leichhardt Oval, it will go a long way to helping the Tigers beat Canberra.

“I think we’re going alright, but I think it will be the whole year before we (completely gel),’’ Moses said.

“It won’t come straight away. We played junior footy together, but coming up to grade, it’s completely different. If we get this year out of the way, we’ll be better for it.

“Everyone is patient here, and everyone knows what’s coming along in the coming years.

“Compared to our juniors, I was the more dominant player, but since coming into grade, he’s (Brooks) taken a different step into that No.7 role and really taken control of the games.’’

Moses and Brooks are still working on their promising partnership.

Brooks came under fire for his defence last year, but addressed that area this season. There was a rare glitch last weekend when Brooks was bumped off by Warriors wrecking ball Konrad Hurrell.

The Tigers were right in the game against the Warriors after trailing 20-6, and could have almost pinched victory had things gone their way.

Skipper Robbie Farah has been impressed with Moses and Brooks, and already declared them to be the eventual NSW halves.

“Brooksy had Braith (Anasta) there last year, and Braith had experience, but when you get two young kids together with the responsibility on their shoulders to steer the team around the park, it’s difficult,’’ Farah said.

“But they haven’t shied away from doing that, and we’ve also got full confidence in them to do that for us. I’m more than happy for them to take the reins of the team and direct us around.’’

Taylor has been happy with Brooks and Moses, but added: “We need to keep working hard on our kicking, and to understand the importance of choices we make in terms of what kicks and the right times (to put them in).’’
