Robbie Farah appointed assistant coach for Socceroos Legends match against Liverpool

TIGERS star Robbie Farah will be the most conflicted coach in sport this week as he joins Graham Arnold’s staff for the Socceroos Legends clash with Liverpool.

ROBBIE Farah just might be the most conflicted coach in sport on Wednesday — sat on one bench, but secretly rooting for the other.

“It’s a tough one,” Farah admits — the diehard Liverpool fan helping to prepare an Australian team to face some of his heroes.

“A draw would be nice.”

LATE TACKLE: Legends show how far Liverpool have fallen

EXTRA TIME: Jedinak on the way out

Farah will assist Graham Arnold with the Socceroos Legends team to take on a squad of Liverpool alumni on Thursday night at ANZ Stadium, a left-field appointment unashamedly designed to pique the interest of league fans.

“Tactically I’m not sure I can provide that much,” Farah said, “but hopefully I can help Graham out, and he has already told me it’ll be a pretty relaxed environment.

“Just to see how players who were at the top of their game in another code prepare will be fascinating. I’m looking forward to getting in among the group, and be in camp with the team on Wednesday night.

“They’ve all played at such a level, and I hope there’ll be a few sports fans who take the chance to come and see a game.”

“Some of the guys on show are true legends of the game, and it’s the first time Stevie Gerrard has played in Sydney.”

Farah has met Gerrard before, but there are other heroes for him to come across, as befits a fan with “You’ll Never Walk Alone” tattooed on his chest.

“Robbie has been an avid football supporter for many years, and we all know about his love for Liverpool so I was delighted to extend the offer to him to him,” Arnold said.

“Having Robbie assist with the coaching and training with the team also provides a fresh pair of eyes on our squad who have been training regularly across the last month.

“We look forward to seeing him at our next session and spending the week with the team.”
