Late obstruction controversy mars Raiders comeback win over Wests Tigers

THE Raiders staged an epic comeback to defeat the Tigers 30-22 but debate will rage over a controversial “no try” decision to Tigers halfback Luke Brooks.

With the Tigers trailing 24-22, Robbie Farah ran from dummy half to the left and went behind Keith Galloway, who had charged through as a decoy runner.

Farah then put in a grubber kick, which was knocked on by Jack Wighton and dived on by Brooks.

However it was controversially ruled an obstruction, with the Raiders scoring a late try to cap a memorable win. Watch the video above and have your say in our poll.

Referee Henry Perenara had no hesitation in sending the decision up as “no try” and video referee Matt Cecchin took a single viewing to make his decision.

Tigers coach Jason Taylor did not comment on the decision in the post-match press conference, simply saying “That’s the rule.

“In the end, we got what we deserved”.

The Tigers seemed untouchable early with James Tedesco and Luke Brooks running amok down the Raiders right hand side.

But tries to Shannon Boyd and Jarrod Croker kept the Raiders within touching distance before three second half tries gave them a memorable victory.

HIT OF THE SEASON?: Soliola flattens Brooks

The win was especially sweet for Croker, who kicked a clutch penalty goal from nearly 40 metres out to give the Raiders their first lead of the afternoon.

Croker had missed a crucial kick against the Tigers last season and famously pushed one wide in the 2010 semi final between the two sides.
