It’s claimed “professional” fighters set upon the NRL player, and that after the incident, Mr Asofa-Solomona morphed into a polite and apologetic man.

“After the fight, Nelson said to me ‘sorry, sorry. I had to defend my people’ said Gonzalo Assiego, who owns the popular Seminyak nightclub La Favela where the fracas started.

According to Mr Assiego, the Storm players were enjoying a quiet evening when the expert fighters launched an attack on them.

“Nelson and his friends were having a great time. They were very polite and keeping to themselves,” Mr Assiego said.

“It was getting late and they were sitting in a lounge area when three men came up and punched Nelson’s friend very hard, unprovoked.

“They really looked like professional fighters the way they were so fast and so strong.”

The brawl moved outside the club on to the main drag of Seminyak where onlookers filmed the video of Asofa-Solomona, all 115 kilogram and 200 centimetres of him, swinging.

It was when the fight hit the street that Asofa-Solomona exercised considerable force.

At the time one of the attacking gang members was armed with a bottle.

“Who takes on a group of rugby league players as big as this crew? Even my own professional security team, who are experts in protection, could not stop these men,” Mr Assiego said.

Mr Assiego has made a full report to local police and hopes the gang is caught and prosecuted.
