Latrell Mitchell may have played his last game for the Sydney Roosters.

The premiers withdrew an $800,000 offer to the Kangaroos centre after a meeting with coach Trent Robinson at the club’s Moore Park headquarters on Tuesday.

The Daily Telegraph understands the Roosters are prepared to offer Mitchell an immediate release if he signs with another club before the start of next season, providing the financial settlement is satisfactory.

As reported in The Daily Telegraph on Monday the Roosters have been at loggerheads with Mitchell for some time.

Speculation has been rife for weeks that the Canterbury Bulldogs are prepared to pay Mitchell $1 million a season from 2021 onwards.

However it is unlikely they could get him any earlier because they are on the salary cap for 2020.

The Roosters confirmed on Tuesday night they had told Mitchell’s management that their offer had been withdrawn.

“Latrell has expressed that he would like to explore his options for season 2021, however he remains under contract with the Roosters for season 2020,” the Roosters said in a statement.

Mitchell took to Instagram to respond to the criticism of his contract negotiations and his performance for the Kangaroos in the shock Test loss to Tonga on Saturday.

Mitchell, who is already a father and has another child on the way, said he would make his family the priority as he weighs up his future.

The Roosters have also lost $1 million halfback Cooper Cronk.

The back to back premiers have already earmarked rising talent Billy Smith to come into the centres for next season.

The uncertainly around Mitchell’s future is even more intriguing considering the situation with his advisers.

Mitchell split with Steve Deacon earlier in the year, signed with Wade Rushton but is relying heavily on the advice of influential indigenous figure Matt Rose, who looks after Cody Walker and Jack Wighton.

Mitchell left Sydney after Tuesday’s meeting and is understood to have headed home to Taree.

“What would I do without a place to escape to,” Mitchell said on Instagram.
