TEAMS: Who is in for Round 9?
They have no idea if Latrell Mitchell is on his way to Redfern but South Sydney players would love to sign the Sydney Roosters superstar.
Any prospect of Mitchell leaving Bondi is premature with the 21-year-old signed to the Roosters until the end of next year. The NSW and Australian players future has been long spoken about in recent weeks with speculation linking him to South Sydney to become Greg Inglis’ long-term replacement.
South Sydney skipper Sam Burgess has heard the rumours but is not worrying himself about them.
“I have not been giving it much thought,” Burgess said. “I don’t have a feeling on it all. Until it’s news I don’t really buy into it.
“He is a cracking player I know that. If it happens, it happens.”
Veteran John Sutton is comfortable with the current caliber of players in South Sydney’s backline. He did however concede the class of Mitchell.
“There is enough depth in this club in the outside backs,” Sutton said. “We have Adam Doueihi and Braidon Burns to come back. Kyle (Turner) is doing a great job for us out there.
“Latrell Mitchell is one of the stars of the game. I don’t know what the talk is. I heard him say the other day he hasn’t talked to Souths.
“All clubs wants to get those players to the club. Ours is no different.”
The Rabbitohs have also been linked with a move to sign out of favour Brisbane centre James Roberts.
Roberts made his debut at South Sydney in 2011 before going on to play for Penrith, Gold Coast and the Broncos.
“I don’t buy into it,” Burgess said. “The game moves quick. Things change quickly. I don’t get too excited about stuff I don’t get too disappointed.
“We are going all right at the moment. If someone comes that’s great. If not it’s not too big of a deal.”
