THE NRL has cleared Jarryd Hayne to resume his career with the Gold Coast, but he may still be hauled before the league’s integrity unit over whether he had any knowledge of Parramatta’s dodgy third party deals.
It was suggested Hayne would need to answer any questions before being registered by the NRL.
A spokesman for the NRL said Hayne could play while the salary cap investigation relating to players and agents at Parramatta was still ongoing.
“Like any other player, Jarryd Hayne is free to play while that investigation is undertaken,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile Hayne’s good mate, Wallaby star Israel Folau, was surprised Hayne signed with Gold Coast.
“No, I wouldn’t have thought that would have come but, for whatever reason, he’s going there,” Folau said. “I am sure he’s got itchy feet and can’t wait to get the boots on again, run around and get his hands on the ball.
“Everyone would have expected Jarryd to go straight back to Parra but he had different reasons.”
Eels fans took to social media to vent frustration at Hayne’s decision.
Hayne once said after signing with the NFL: “I’m leaving knowing that I have signed a ‘lifetime agreement’ with the Eels, so if I return to the NRL, it will be to Parramatta.”
Hayne did receive a massive offer from Gold Coast — money he couldn’t reject.
