NORTH Queensland backrower Tariq Sims isn’t shy about the way he wants to end his Cowboys career.

The 24-year-old is set to join younger brother Korbin at the Newcastle Knights next year, a move that will see him closer to family in Sydney.

But before that he wants to repay some of the faith to the premiership starved north Queensland club that helped him return to full fitness after two broken legs in as many years.

The Cowboys have been written off in some quarters to even make the finals, but Sims has been one of his side’s best in trying to help them make the eight.

Finals is just the start, with the October 5 grand final not beyond their grasp, Sims suggested.

“The Cowboys are a massive part of me and my life and they’ve helped shape who I am today,” Sims said.

“To reward the Cowboys fans with finals football and the big game at the end of the year would be sensational to go out on.

“We’re taking it one game at a time and making sure we do the little things right and finals football will look after itself.”

After breaking the Cowboys away losing streak last week against the Sharks, Sims said they could propel themselves further with a win over the Bulldogs.

“Last week started our run into the finals but we’re going to have to make sure we’re up the top there,” Sims said.

“It is a tight top of the table so I’m excited to see what position a couple of wins could put us in.”

Cowboys coach Paul Green praised Sims and older brother Ashton’s commitment to finishing their time in Townsville playing some of their best football.

“They’re great guys and they both care a lot about the club,” Green said.

“They’re not going to be here next year, unfortunately, so they’re both determined to finish on a bright note.”
