COWBOYS co-captain Matt Scott will press coach Paul Green to abandoned plans to rest him during the challenging mid-season rounds.
Green revealed last month he was strongly considering giving Scott, 29, strategic rest around the State of Origin period which he said drains senior players “physically and emotionally because there is so much pressure’’.
“I haven’t asked for one. And I haven’t spoken to Paul about having one,’’ Scott told The Courier-Mail.
“If it’s up to me, I won’t have a break, not one game. I hate the idea of being rested.

“I know there was talk that a few weeks on the sidelines with a fractured eye socket (suffered in Origin II last year) really refreshed me. I did feel good towards the end of the year.
“If I can see it’s best for the team and my health, I won’t be silly about it.
“But I’m used to playing a lot games through the year and I hope this year is no different.’’
Scott, who was uncharacteristically flat in last Sunday’s test loss to New Zealand, said one key plank in him playing good football towards the end of the season is managing workloads at training through the week in Townsville.
“That’s the case especially around the Origin period and I’m very confident that the coaching staff and the club’s strength and fitness guys will be able to do that with me,’’ he said.
“I’m an older player and JT is in the same boat — he has a couple of years on me. We manage the workloads well at the club. I’m pretty confident we will both be fine.’’
Green had a degree of comfort this year with his strategy of resting Scott and Thurston because of the five-match winning streak which North Queensland take into their home clash with Canterbury on Saturday.
UBET markets now have the Cowboys as $6 favourites to win the club’s first premiership in their 20th season.
Sydney Roosters ($6.50), South Sydney (7) and the Broncos ($7) are next in betting markets.
“It was a really good feeling to go into the Test week having turned our season around,’’ Scott said.
“We had a chance to take a breath and relax a bit for a few days. We can look at what we’d done well and where we need to improve. We can start again after the rep round.
“I’m very proud of how the boys have turned the season around after we lost the first three games.’’
Scott said the Round 4 win over Melbourne arrived in the nick of time, but insists the Cowboys had mostly played better than a 0-3 ledger indicated.
