JOHNATHAN Thurston didn’t get the fairytale premiership but at least he won’t end on a wooden spoon, as Cowboys fullback Ben Hampton produced the best game of his career.

1. PHEW. Johnathan Thurston won’t finish his career with the wooden spoon. The Cowboys champion received the dream send-off in his final home game, producing a 16-point haul in his side’s belting of the Eels. It was his 100th home win in Matt Scott’s 250th game, a sweet last stint in the Townsville trenches.

2. BEN Hampton produced the best game of his career. The speedy utility tore the Eels apart at fullback, having a hand in one try and scoring two himself. The Cowboys could do worse than hand him the No.1 jumper next season.

2. COWBOYS coach Paul Green must persist with Gideon Gela-Mosby. The 20-year-old has had some disciplinary issues this season but his speed his electrifying. He scores tries many others can’t. North Queensland’s backline looks dangerous again.

4. KYLE Feldt is ready to push for Origin honours next season. The Cowboys winger has been a shining light in a difficult year and his three tries were a tribute to his size, speed and athleticism. Few flanks possess his raw talent and finishing ability.

5. JORDAN McLean has transformed the Cowboys. Since his return from a foot injury a month ago, the hulking McLean has monstered rivals. The Test prop destroyed the Eels in midfield, setting the platform with 171 metres of dominance.
