MOSES Mbye was never going to have a fond farewell as a Bulldog after coach Dean Pay blasted his side for a poor preparation ahead of their 32-10 loss at the club’s spiritual home on Saturday afternoon.

Mbye was afforded one last hit out with the Bulldogs before linking with the Tigers from Sunday.

Canterbury’s performance was nothing to celebrate as they now look to play on minus their only attacking threat in the Bulldogs fourth consecutive loss.

Pay blasted his side for their application during the week after they had a horrid captain’s run session on Friday.

“We were never in the contest,” Pay said.

“Physically we weren’t good enough. It was the way (my side) turned up and trained during the week wasn’t good enough. One of these were coming for a while. We’ve been competitive when we play our best. What we dished up today. I feel sorry for our fans.

“(I was concerned by) their energy and their talk and where they were as a footy team. We addressed it yesterday and I addressed it again (before kick-off) but it wasn’t good enough.”

Pay said the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his players futures had to have some impact on their mindset.

A frustrated Bulldogs coach watched on as Mbye played his final game.

“This club is going through a huge change,” Pay said. “Every decision we’ve made so is in the clubs best interest. If that’s Mo moving on in the best interest of the club…We are in a tough position.”

Mbye scored a try but was outshone by veteran Titans fullback Michael Gordon who starred scoring two tries. Mbye acknowledged the constant speculation had taking its toll on the players.

You could have forgiven Mbye for wanting to fast-forward through Saturday’s game as he leaves a hapless Canterbury side for a Tigers team who remain in the hunt for a top eight spot.

“Our performance was poor,” Mbye said. “It was not the way I wanted to finish it. I’m a bit excited and nervous. I have some great memories at this club. It’s a shame I didn’t finish the way I wanted to.

“It’s been a really weird last few weeks. I want be at the Tigers game (today). I start on Monday.

“(The uncertainty) has an effect on the playing group. I knew where I was at but other blokes don’t. That game was one of the worst performances I’ve been involved in.

“We didn’t have too much wind in our sails during the week…A little bit of innuendo must have an effect.

“The situation we are in is unique. The current administration inherited a lot of the issues. The club has nothing wrong by me.

“During negotiations I had a chat with (Josh Reynolds). He is an honest bloke and positive about the Tigers and where they are at.”

Gordon scored twice inside – the first following a bust by Kevin Proctor- the opening 12 minutes as they badly exposed a flimsy Canterbury left edge of John Olive, Matt Frawley and Marcelo Montoya.

As much as Frawley struggled in defence, his attack did not fare any better. He kicked one out on the full as the Bulldogs battled without Kieran Foran and the Morris twins.

While Foran has not matched his more than one million dollar pay cheque, he has given the side some much-needed direction.

Gordon ran for 184 metres while Ash Taylor laid on three tries and made three line breaks of his own in a strong performance to give the Titans their first win of the season outside of Queensland.
