5. Paul Hauff

THE long-legged policeman played a relatively small number of games with 50 over six seasons but made a spectacular start to his career, scoring three tries on debut against Newcastle in round six 1990. By the end of the next season he was an Origin and Test player before injuries and the emergence of Julian O’Neill saw him restricted to just a handful of games over the next five years.

HAD his issues off the field but was reliable and cool-headed for the Broncos when playing at the back on 79 occasions including the club’s first two grand final wins in 1992 and 1993. Played 23 games in 1995 before being sacked for poor behaviour.

MAKING his debut for the Broncos aged 17 in Round 1 of 2004, Hunt spilled the first ball that came his way but he went on to play 25 games in the position that season, scoring 15 tries including four against South Sydney in Round 17. Wore the No.1 jumper on 119 occasions for the club and scored 51 tries before leaving to pursue a career in the AFL and then rugby.

THE star schoolboy five-eighth was moved to fullback as Kevin Walters had a mortgage on the Broncos’ number six and mastered the role, playing 164 club games including the 1997 (Super League), 1998 and 2000 grand finals in the position before reverting back to five eighth in 2004. He was voted Dally M Fullback of the Year in 2001 and 2002.
