Broncos captain Alex Glenn is racing the clock to be fit for Round 1 of the NRL season after being ruled out of Saturday’s final pre-season trial against the Gold Coast Titans.
Glenn has undergone scans after aggravating a hamstring injury in the Broncos’ 18-16 trial loss to North Queensland in Cairns last Saturday.
Glenn missed the NRL Nines in Perth a fortnight ago because of the hamstring complaint and will again be put on ice for the Titans trial at Redcliffe.
Glenn has a little over two weeks to overcome the injury in time for Brisbane’s NRL season-opener against the Cowboys in Townsville on March 13.
Broncos coach Anthony Seibold will name his trial time on Tuesday afternoon and revealed Glenn would not be in it.
“Alex definitely won’t play this week,” he said.
“He had a scan yesterday and we will know where it’s at. He is walking around and looks OK but we don’t want to take any risks at this time of year.
“He tweaked it attempting to score a try but we’re hopeful he will be right for round one. With any hammy you get the relevant scan so we will know more after seeing the results.
“I’m confident Alex won’t miss round one. He’s had a disrupted pre-season with his hammy so we won’t risk him this weekend.
“I will name a large squad for this trial. I will finish the game with some of our younger players, most of our senior guys have had good minutes in the pre-season.”
The Broncos trained on Tuesday morning at Red Hill, with David Fifita and Tevita Pangai Jr slotting in on the edges in Glenn’s absence.
