NRL 2020: Alex Glenn named captain of the Brisbane Broncos
It’s official. The Brisbane Broncos have relieved Darius Boyd of his captaincy duties, handing the reins to a new leader for the 2020 season.

Alex Glenn has been announced as the new captain of the Brisbane Broncos following the axing of Darius Boyd.
Glenn will captain the Broncos in 2020 after coach Anthony Seibold opted to punt Boyd following three seasons in the role.
Glenn, 31, has played 259 NRL games for the Broncos since debuting in 2009 and will become the first New Zealand international to captain the club.

“Today I’m going to announced as the Brisbane Broncos 2020 club captain,” Glenn said on Friday morning.
“As a teenager, I only dreamed of wearing the jersey a couple of times, but to be in the position I am in now to represent this great club as their club captain it is a huge honour and something I am truly grateful for.
“I want to thank everyone that’s been there and supported me over my career.
“I’m going to make sure I’m doing everything to make you proud of this great club.”
The leadership shake-up comes after the Broncos bowed out of the 2019 NRL premiership race with a horrific 58-0 loss to Parramatta, the biggest finals defeat in the competition’s history.
Seibold hauled his squad over the coals following the defeat and the sacking of Boyd as skipper has been his biggest decision since the debacle.
Boyd, 32, was given the Broncos captaincy in 2017 by former coach Wayne Bennett.
The former Queensland and Kangaroos representative remains at the club, but doubts hover over his place in the team and 2020 shapes as his final season in the NRL.

Glenn joins the likes of league legends Darren Lockyer, Allan Langer and Wally Lewis as players to have captained the Broncos.
