Broncos young gun Joe Ofahengaue hurts calf at training

Alex Glenn says the revenge is on the minds of the the Broncos players as they take on the Eels, but it’s a calf injury to one of Anthony Seibold’s young guns that will be on the coach’s mind.

Veteran Broncos back-rower Alex Glenn says it would be unacceptable for Brisbane to miss the finals despite the “chaos” that has engulfed the club in Anthony Seibold’s first year in charge at Red Hill.

The Broncos have had another disrupted build-up with Joe Ofahengaue (calf tightness) and Tom Flegler (virus) suffering setbacks ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with sixth-placed Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium.

Seibold is confident both will play, with starting lock Ofahengaue and interchange prop Flegler expected to appear at Brisbane’s captain’s run tomorrow.

Clinging to eighth spot on 23 competition points, the Broncos can all-but seal a finals berth by beating the Eels. Should they lose, the Broncos could finish the weekend outside the top eight if either the Panthers upset the Roosters on Saturday or the Tigers beat the Dragons on Sunday.

The Broncos have missed the finals just five times in their illustrious 31-season history and Glenn, a 256-game NRL stalwart, challenged the squad to deliver another playoffs campaign.

“We always want to be in those finals series,” he said.

“It’s heartbreaking to miss out.

“It happened to us once before (in 2013 under Anthony Griffin), we missed the top eight (finishing 12th) and it’s something I will never forget.

“We don’t want to replicate that season.”

Glenn said the Broncos are determined to atone for their round 14 debacle against the Eels, who dished out a 38-10 hiding in one of Brisbane’s worst performances of the season.

“There’s been a lot of talk about that game this week,” Glenn said.

“As a team, when the coaches weren’t around, we had a chat about that loss.

“I wasn’t playing in that game and I could see the way the boys played ... we got bullied and out-energised and we don’t want that again.

“We want a bit of revenge and we are playing for pride. We want to rectify what happened at Bankwest and go into the finals with a lot of confidence.

“It’s do-or-die now.”

Primarily a back-rower, Glenn has done a fine job defending at left centre and is primed to muzzle his opponent this week, in-form Eels speedster Waqa Blake.

“My shoulders are enjoying it (playing centre),” he said.

“I’m doing a lot less tackles that’s for sure, I think I made only three tackles on the weekend.

“When you get a bit older, you tend to move towards the front row, but I’ve been going the other way.

“I’m a bit of a Benjamin Button at the moment – I’m getting out of bed feeling younger because I’m doing less tackles.”
