Broncos sink to new low with sorry Bulldogs defeat: Five things we learned

1. WAYNE Bennett’s coaching career at the Broncos looks increasingly shaky after every poor Brisbane performance and this was among the worst of the season. The Broncos were simply terrible and did little to help their coach push his case for a one-year extension to coach Brisbane in 2020.

2. THE Broncos are facing the prospect of missing the top four and having to win four straight finals matches to win the 2018 NRL premiership. The problem is Brisbane have been so inconsistent this season they have not one four straight matches at all.

3. THE Broncos have become the NRL’s hair-pullers. Anthony Milford was fined $1150 for pulling the hair of Penrith’s Corey Harawira-Naera and lock Josh McGuire should also be stung after pulling Canterbury forward Adam Elliott’s hair.

4. HAVE the Broncos made a mistake in letting prop Korbin Sims leave? Sims went within a whisker of scoring a remarkable hat-trick inside nine minutes just days after claiming he was “forced out” of the club to sign with St George Illawarra.

5. THE Bulldogs could find themselves in hot water after a trainer allegedly told officials to “referee fairly” as they came off the field at halftime. The NRL will come down hard on Canterbury if that is proven to be right.
