ANTHONY Seibold has been locked in as the Broncos’ coaching successor to Wayne Bennett on a four-year deal starting from 2020.

The Broncos on Wednesday confirmed Seibold will be the fourth coach in the club’s history after The Courier-Mail revealed exclusively Brisbane’s board had rubber-stamped his appointment.

Seibold, currently the South Sydney coach, is contracted to the Broncos until the end of 2023.

The Broncos insist current coach Bennett will honour the final year of his deal in 2019, despite speculation Brisbane and Souths will complete a straight swap of coaches in the coming weeks.

Broncos chairman Karl Morris lauded the acquisition of Seibold, who edged out rival candidates Kevin Walters, Michael Maguire and Jason Demetriou in a four-way fight for the coveted job.

“We have been through a robust process and interviewed a number of high-calibre coaches,” Morris said.

“Anthony was a stand-out. His football knowledge is exceptional, as is his thinking and process around people management.

“He also has a strong commitment that will add to the commercial and community aspects of our club, which is extremely important to the Brisbane Broncos.”

Broncos CEO Paul White said Seibold - the reigning NRL coach of the year - would lead the club into a bright new era as they look to break their 13-year premiership drought.

“We have done a thorough due diligence and as a result we have got the best person for the job in Anthony,” he said.

“Our job is to look after the long-term future of this club and that is what we have done through Anthony’s appointment.

“Anthony is one of the best young coaches in the game and having him for 2020 is a huge win for our members, players, staff, sponsors and fans.

“Planning is well and truly underway for next season and we are expecting big things from the team – it’s a season we can all look forward to.”
