Monday Bunker: A Sydney Grand Finalist is guaranteed in the NRL

DEPARTING Broncos prop Korbin Sims issued a standing apology to his teammates following the brain snaps which crushed Brisbane’s NRL premiership tilt.

Sims’ final game in Broncos colours before he joins St George Illawarra was a disaster as Brisbane was thumped 48-18 by the Dragons on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium.

Sims was terrorised by older brother Tariq in the 30-point thumping which ended Brisbane’s season in the first week of the finals.

Sims conceded three penalties, is facing a two-match suspension for a dangerous throw and was steamrolled by Tariq as the Dragons backrower racked up three tries.

After his 44th and final game for the Broncos, Sims addressed his teammates to apologise for his woeful performance on the big stage.

“Korbin was just trying to stand up for the team and play his role and part,” said retiring Broncos prop Sam Thaiday.

“He is going to be a fantastic player in the future and it’s disappointing it’s not going to be at the Broncos.

“Definitely keep an eye on him. It won’t be too long until he puts that Queensland jersey on which is a bit weird because his brother plays for NSW.”

Sims wasn’t the only Bronco to turn in a turgid performance with Brisbane’s season on the line.

Backrower Tevita Pangai Jr was monstered by Test star Tyson Frizell and had little answers defensively in one of his poorer games of the season.

Carrying a calf injury, winger Corey Oates had little impact and made schoolboy errors while five-eighth Anthony Milford made three mistakes late in the game.

While threatening with the ball, NSW Origin centre James Roberts was exposed defensively and lamented his performance.

“I’m obviously filthy on myself,” Roberts said.

“What’s done is done. I can’t really change anything. It is what it is.

“It’s heartbreaking. We were building to something special.

“I thought our young blokes stood up really well in the last month of footy considering the injuries we had. The boys were playing really well.

“We just didn’t turn up against the Dragons. That’s finals footy for you, you’ve got to be on all day.

“Anything can happen. Anyone can win.”

Young forward David Fifita left the stadium on crutches after suffering a potentially serious ankle injury.
