The review process is in full flight at Red Hill with the Broncos board assembling on Friday to assess the club’s recent struggles, including the future of Anthony Seibold following a tough first year.

Broncos coach Anthony Seibold on Friday fronted the Broncos board to deliver his blueprint to help the club recover from the wreckage of last Sunday’s 58-0 finals capitulation to the Eels.

Brisbane chairman Karl Morris presided over a four-hour meeting at Red Hill where Seibold and football operations chief Peter Nolan tabled their plan to haul the Broncos back into premiership contention.

The meeting had been pencilled in since January, so it wasn’t quite the crisis congregation some had forecast, but the gravity of Brisbane’s finals debacle was still high on the agenda.

BENNETT: BOYD’S TAKEN TOO MUCH BLAME

The Broncos executive convened at 12pm on Wednesday with Morris, Darren Lockyer, Tony Joseph and Katie Bickford among the board members who heard a detailed critique of Brisbane’s season from Seibold and Nolan.

Despite having the worst loss in Brisbane’s 31-year history on his resume, Seibold is safe – for now.

The Broncos board believe Seibold needed at least one season to stamp his mark in the post-Wayne Bennett era and will give him unfettered power to drive cultural change in 2020.

It has been an exhaustive week for Seibold, who has spent recent days completing 36 one-on-one interviews with every member of Brisbane’s full-time squad, including their development players.

The Broncos board has come under fire for handing Seibold a five-year contract and the investment in the rookie NRL coach must work or the club faces the embarrassment of a multimillion-dollar payout.

For now, there is no axe hovering over Seibold, who has board support after the coach delivered some home truths to Brisbane’s senior core in his bid to deliver a top-four finish next season.

“The coach has had some hard and honest conversations with the players,” Lockyer said.

“The timing of the feedback sessions were appropriate while the record loss is still so raw.

“Most people would agree the existing talent at the club is not an issue. But the leadership framework to help cultivate the emerging talent is the challenge Anthony Seibold must tackle in the off-season.

“We’re not rising to the big occasions. When it matters (in the finals), the Broncos crack.”
