Anthony Milford, David Fifita and Payne Haas in Brisbane Broncos squad for NRL Nines

Perhaps fuelled by the desire to put last season’s nightmare behind them, Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold has selected the strongest squad possible in order to win the NRL Nines.

Brisbane have been installed as one of the favourites to win the NRL Nines after naming a star-studded squad for next week’s tournament in Perth.

Broncos coach Anthony Seibold will unleash a lethal mix of power, skill and speed with Anthony Milford, David Fifita and Payne Haas headlining an impressive 18-man squad for the fifth edition of the Nines.

The nine-a-side format makes its tournament debut in Western Australia and the Broncos are keen to win some silverware with backline flyers Jamayne Isaako, Tesi Niu, Jesse Arthars and Herbie Farnworth keen to impress.

Broncos 347-game legend Corey Parker, now 37, will come out of retirement for a Nines cameo, while boom winger Xavier Coates could light up the tournament with his powerful 102kg frame.

In the halves, attacking dynamo Milford will be supported by playmakers Tom Dearden and Brodie Croft, the latter of whom will make his Broncos debut after his off-season departure from the Melbourne Storm.

Up front, the Broncos look dangerous, with the hard-running of Australian Nines representative Fifita to be complemented by the bulk of 118kg Origin prop Haas and experience of new skipper Alex Glenn.

Ladbrokes believe the Broncos will take some stopping, installing them second favourites at $7 behind Parramatta ($6). Souths ($7) are on the same line of betting as the Broncos, with Melbourne ($9) the next best.

The Broncos qualified for the final of the inaugural Nines tournament in 2014, only to lose to Queensland arch rivals the Cowboys in the decider at Eden Park.

“We want to go over there and give a good account of ourselves – we’ve put together a strong squad,” Seibold said.

“It will be good to see Corey Parker back in action, his experience for the younger blokes will be invaluable.”
