Tanah Boyd has committed to the Warriors for 2026 – a decision that raises the prospect of the Cowboys making a play for Bulldogs hooker Reed Mahoney.
Boyd had been on the radar of the Cowboys, who viewed the former Titans playmaker as a possible replacement for NSW Origin star Reece Robson, who is headed to the Roosters next season.
However, with a mutual option in his contract to stay at the Warriors in 2026, Boyd has informed club management that he will take up the option to stick around in Auckland next season.
Boyd’s withdrawal from the open market for next season could further increase the Cowboys interest in turning to Mahoney, who has been allowed permission by the Bulldogs to secure a deal beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of 2026.
As revealed by this masthead in April, Mahoney was quietly shopped to the Cowboys, with the club fielding the approach early in the New Year.
