WITH three premiership wins in a row, Paul Green has the Midas touch and now a glowing endorsement from Dally M Coach of the Year Trent Robinson who declared the Cowboys' best would come under Green.

In the immediate aftermath of Robinson's incredible title win with the Sydney Roosters in his first year as head coach, he said Green's departure would leave a large hole in the Bondi club.

Robinson said Green's strength would be installing a “hard edge” to the Cowboy's playing group.

Green has been part of three title wins in three years, following back-to-back Intrust Super Cup victories with Wynnum Manly before becoming an assistant at the Roosters this year who held the Provan Summons Trophy aloft on Sunday night.

Green will move to North Queensland late this month where his first order of business will be to finalise his support staff.

At the Cowboys he has a playing roster nearly equal to the Roosters' side that overcame the weight of expectation to become the code's dominant team this season.

Robinson said the work ethic of Green, who also steered the Roosters under-20s to a semi-final this year, would ensure North Queensland's players improved.

“He's a very intelligent footy man but he knows how to get the best out of players too,” Robinson said.

“He did it in Queensland Cup and he did it with us this year. He will get the best out of those players.

“They will have a hard edge in the way they play. It is our loss.

“He has been a great addition to our coaching staff and coached the young guys very well then also worked hard and did well with our NRL players.

“That is always our mindset. If coaches get an opportunity like he has back at somewhere he loves then that's a great opportunity for him.”

Roosters' chief operating officer Brian Canavan said it was bittersweet seeing Green, who he brought to the Roosters as a player a decade ago, leave the club.

“It is one those really mixed feelings,” Canavan said.

“All young coaches are striving to get an NRL job. I have known Greeny for years and years. I was involved in a Queensland under-19 side when he was coming through.

“He then had two seasons with us in the early 2000s. He has contributed enormously to our club.

"We have developed him and he has developed us. It leaves a hole here, no doubt about it.

“One of the philosophies of our footy club is about developing people and we will cheer for him now.”
