The Sydney Roosters have been rocked by news that recruitment guru Clint Zammit has quit the club mid-season.
Zammit, who is regarded as one of the best footy judges in the game, told Roosters boss Nick Politis of his decision on Tuesday.
Zammit is returning home to Townsville to work for his old club the Cowboys in a move that is more for personal reasons.
His father is struggling with ill health and he wants to be there to support him.
“I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity at the Roosters,” he said.
“They are such a great club and I’m sure they’ll be in a position over the next few years to stay where they belong among the top clubs.”
The Roosters recruitment has been under the spotlight with revelations they let Jacob Preston go to Canterbury and Ethan Strange escape to the Canberra Raiders which happened before Zammit’s arrival at the club.
There have also been questions marks on the signing of Brandon Smith and more recently Chad Townsend.
