Queensland’s NRL teams have produced some of the greatest players to ever play rugby league.
And SuperCoach “God” Corey Parker knows a thing or two about the Sunshine State’s breeding ground for rugby league talent, having played and coached in all levels of the game here.
So the Maroons great has picked out his top five players across the Broncos, Titans and Cowboys this season to help give you the edge in SuperCoach this year.
From a Broncos rookie on the verge of making it into the NRL to a “must-have” for any team, here’s Parker’s list of what players to pick north of the border.
Payne Haas (Broncos, $728,200, FRF)
HE had an outstanding year. His price is higher because of that but you shouldn’t be scared off by that.
You’d like to think that he’d have a similar year this year and he’s going to earn you plenty of points. He averaged an incredible 78.3 last year and was the eighth highest scorer in the league.
Fanitesi Niu (Broncos, $171,900, CTW)
I HAVE a real soft spot for Tesi. I’ve been really proud to see him flourish.
I thought he had an outstanding game for Tonga, where he played at halfback in their 14-6 win over Great Britain.
You’ll see him in the Broncos colours at the NRL level that’s for sure. He’s a super kid with a huge future. He’s also starring in the NRL Nines this weekend so I’m excited for everyone to see the talent of this kid.
Moeaki Fotuaika (Titans, $443,000, FRF)
I EXPECT him to start and play big minutes this year. He’s going to go from where he was to another level. They’ve got a new coach down there (at the Titans) so I suspect the players are keen to play to their best. With Ryan James now out of the picture through injury, Moeaki could slide straight into the starting front row spot.
Esan Marsters (Cowboys, $482,900, CTW)
HE’S a new recruit and in a completely new system.
He has been a top player having played for the Kiwis so he’s got the talent. He seemed to stagnate a bit last year so the move up to Townsville will be good for him and his game.
Valentine Holmes (Cowboys, $563,700, FLB)
IN my opinion, he’s a gifted athlete so he’ll adapt quite quickly.
In terms of what he’s going to bring on the field, he’ll run hard, get involved and he’ll score the occasional try or two. He’s going to be an integral part of the Cowboys this year. I’d be surprised if he’s not in everyone’s Super Coach team. He’s a must-have.
