NRL Late Mail: How Origin 2 will impact your SuperCoach team in round 17

State of Origin is taking a toll with the Dragons forced to rest Zac Lomax and the Panthers set to call on a host of youngsters. Updated team news here.

Madge chats the morning after: "There's something special in the group"

NSW Game II hero Zac Lomax has been withdrawn from St George Illawarra’s clash with the Dolphins on Sunday.

Lomax was one of the Blues’ best in the series-saving victory at the MCG, however the Dragons winger will miss the home game at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Christian Tuipulotu will take Lomax’s spot on the wing.

PANTHERS TO REST ORIGIN STARS

Penrith will showcase more of their emerging talent with two rising stars set to make their NRL debut on Sunday as the State of Origin period continues to cause havoc on the competition.

The Panthers will blood highly touted 18-year-old Casey McLean and front-rower Luron Patea as they rest a host of their Origin players. The Panthers have already tied the duo to long-term contracts to keep rival clubs away before they even got a taste of first grade.

McLean has been earmarked as a decade long Penrith player and the NSW under-19s outside back has already re-signed with the club until the end of 2028. Older brother Jesse has already had a taste of first grade but it will be Casey’s turn against the Cowboys on Sunday.

The Panthers are resting Origin players Jarome Luai, Brian To’o, Liam Martin and Dylan Edwards when they take on a Cowboys team who are also missing their Origin stars.

Patea is also a NSW under-19 representative having played in the match last season. The 19-year-old was recently promoted into the club’s top 30 roster with his deal extended until the end of 2027.

TIGERS ENFORCER RETURNS

The Tigers will welcome back John Bateman from injury for their clash against the Roosters.

STORM STARS RULED OUT

Melbourne have lost two of their biggest stars for their clash against Canberra, with Ryan Papenhuyzen ruled out with a foot injury, while Harry Grant has been rested from Origin II. Sua Faalogo will slot in at fullback with Papenhuyzen out, while Bronson Garlick comes in at hooker and Kane Bradley joins the bench.

LUCAS OUT FOR KNIGHTS

The Knights have suffered a blow ahead of their clash against Parramatta, with backrower Dylan Lucas ruled out with hamstring tightness. His absence means Kai Pearce-Paul comes back into the starting side, and Mat Croker comes onto the bench.

Knights coach Adam O’Brien revealed scans cleared Lucas of injury, but he wont be risked.
