SuperCoach NRL Round 14: Lomax goes nuclear in Dragons win, 10 SuperCoach Winners and Losers

Zac Lomax posted one of the best SuperCoach scores of the year as he smashed the record books. Here are the 10 SuperCoach Winners and Losers from St George Illawarra vs Wests Tigers.

It was a comprehensive second half from the Dragons with the Tigers offering no resistance.

The damage was done while Jayden Sullivan was in the sin bin and the visitors simply had no answer.

It marks their ninth loss in a row in worrying signs for the club.

Here are the SuperCoach Winners and Losers from the lone match on Friday Night Footy.

SUPERCOACH WINNERS

1. Zac Lomax (152 pts) - One of the top SuperCoach scores of the season as he piled it on in the dying minutes to finish with a hat-trick.

2. Ben Hunt (121 pts) - A major winner of the night as he calmly navigated as 10-0 deficit to dissect the Tigers

3. Luciano Leilua (87 pts) - Scored two tries and was used as a key weapon of halfback Ben Hunt in the second half.

4. Moses Suli (76 pts) - His score probably doesn’t reflect just how dominant he was out on an edge. Was causing havoc all night.

5. Alex Seyfarth (81 pts) – The lone Tiger on this list on the back of a try and a very solid game despite being on the wrong end of a drubbing. Tried hard.

SUPERCOACH LOSERS

1. Jaydn Su’A (15 pts) – Was given plenty of time to recover after Origin, but that came at a cost for those who had him in their SuperCoach teams.

2. Justin Olam (19 pts) - Didn’t have much joy out wide as the Dragons ran rampant through the backline.

3. Brent Naden (2 pts) - Came on with 21 minutes to play but was unable to get any meaningful involvement.

4. Alex Lobb (24 pts) - Had a perfect start with a leaping try in the opening minutes, but the Tigers went away from kicking to the tall winger, for reasons unknown.

5. Reuben Porter (14 pts) - Given the 21 minutes in his first grade debut, but couldn’t make too much happen in SC world.

FULL-TIME - Dragons 56-14

It’s been a mixed night for Zac Lomax - but he finishes with his second try of the night to help the Dragons raise the bat.

Just when you thought they were done, Ben Hunt puts in a chip to Max Feagai who gets the pass to Lomax to touch down in the corner to complete his hat-trick.

He finished with a personal haul of 32 points on the back of his three tries and 10 goals.

70th minute - Dragons 44-14

It’s that man again.

Ben Hunt puts a grubber through and Luciano Leilua pounces upon it for his second try of the night.

He’s in sublime form and is putting on a clinic.

An ugly moment just minutes later with Zac Lomax taking out Solomon Alaimalo while attempting a catch. The Tigers winger fell horribly and his head appeared to hit the ground upon falling.

Alex Seyfarth is denied a try moments later after a clear double movement.

The very next set the Dragons cement a big win with Kyle Flanagan slicing through the defence and finding a surging Mathew Feagai to claim his double.

60th minute - Dragons 32-14

Ben Hunt puts up a testing bomb, it’s taken by Solomon Alaimalo. But the only problem is he puts his foot on the sideline after taking possession.

That blunder leads directly to another try as Ben Hunt bamboozles Api Koroisau who shoots out of the line, and hits Luciano Leilua with a short ball to crash over from close range.

Another error from the Tigers gifts Dragons prime territory and it’s Hunt who crosses this time, selling a dummy and stepping inside to get over the line.

He then throws the ball at Samuela Fainu after he was tackled after grounding the ball.

They’ve now scored 14 points while Jayden Sullivan has been in the sin bin.

50th minute - Dragons 20-14

Jacob Liddle has passed his HIA and received a few stitches to tidy up that nasty cut. He’s returned to the field.

Reuben Porter is officially an NRL player after coming on in the late stages of the first half.

St George Illawarra strikes first in the second half with Moses Suli running a beautiful out-line as Kyle Flanagan puts him through a gap close to the line, before handing off to Mathew Feagai to score the easiest of tries.

The Dragons are on the attack again and Jayden Sullivan is sent to the sin bin for a professional foul for dragging down Luciano Leilua as he chased a grubber close to the line.

HALFTIME - Tigers 14-12

Jayden Sullivan is penalised for taking a chasing player out to give the Dragons a chance to extend their lead. They can’t however.

Jacob Liddle cops an accidental elbow from Alex Seyfarth while making a tackle and cops a brutal cut on the cheekbone. He comes off for a HIA but will be back on for the start of the second half if he passes.

Both teams come together in a scuffle that gets people excited as Seyfarth throws Kyle Flanagan to the ground.

Flanagan reaches out from dummy half a few plays later but is somewhat controversially denied for a double movement.

It was sent up by Chris Butler as a no try, but to the naked eye it looked like he was entitled to reach out.

Then Seyfarth scores a try of his own to give the Dragons

30th minute - Dragons 12-10

That’s better from St George Illawarra.

A lovely kick from Ben Hunt is batted back from Tyrell Sloan into the waiting hands of Kyle Flanagan to get the Dragons on the board.

A number of Tigers players just stood and watched as it all happened. That will have Benji Marshall concerned after a really promising start.

Just like that the Dragons have their first lead of the game.

Moses Suli breaks through after Alex Twal was called offside, gives a big fend to Jahream Bula, offloads to Zac Lomax who weaves his way to the tryline to complete the 80m try and get the home fans on their feet.

20th minute - Tigers 10-0

The Tigers are outplaying the Dragons in every aspect of the game early on.

Their enthusiasm is at a level we haven’t seen so far in 2024. Great signs for the visitors.

The battle in the middle is a one-way street and they’re looking to give their outside backs some early ball - a great recipe for success.

Sloppy defence from St George Illawarra is brutally punished by the Tigers, with Jahream Bula getting past Jack de Belin who just stopped chasing for some reason, and he finds Jayden Sullivan on his inside.

Wests are playing an expansive brand of football.

10th minute - Tigers 4-0

Api Koroisau has produced a big moment in the opening stages with a 40-20 kick from the toughest of angles.

They make the Dragons pay immediately with Jayden Sullivan putting in a lovely kick for Alex Lobb to leap high straight over Mathew Feagai to get the Tigers on the board early doors.

Great start from the visitors inspired by a big play from their captain.

8PM: We’re off and running in Wollongong for the first match of round 14.

Who are you taking, the Dragons or Tigers?

7.30PM: Consistency has been the big issue for the Red V so far in 2024, but we’ve seen enough to suggest they can be there when the whips are cracking.

Last round they took care of an understrength Panthers, although they were without a host of big names themselves.

The week before they were put to the sword by the red-hot Bulldogs with a terrible second half letting them down.

What will they produce tonight with the opportunity to move into the top eight on the line?

In a stat that works in their favour, they’ve won both games at WIN Stadium this season, and both times they were heavy underdogs.

7PM: The Dragons have been given a huge boost with all three of their State of Origin players lining up for their battle with the Wests Tigers.

Zac Lomax (CTW $676,400) and Ben Hunt (HFB $566,900) will start while Jaydn Su’A (2RF $628,300) adds some punch in the second row for St George Illawarra.

The Tigers remain 1-17 from their team named on Tuesday, with Reuben Porter (2RF $204,300) to make his NRL debut off the bench.

It shapes as a must-win for both teams with the Tigers looking to get away from the bottom end of the ladder and the Dragons eyeing September.

EARLIER: Round 14 kicks off with a bottom-eight battle between St George Illawarra and the Wests Tigers.

The interest for SuperCoaches rests largely with the Tigers with Lachlan Galvin (39.6%), Api Koroisau (24.7%) and Samuela Fainu (11.7%) leading the way in terms of ownership.

The only Dragons player boasting double-figure ownership heading into the week was Zac Lomax (10.8%) but Jack de Belin should finish above 10% by the time the game starts.

Other players to watch are:

Raymond Faitala-Mariner: After pumping out a career-best 120 points against the Panthers last week ‘RFM’ comes into the game with a BE of -9 and consecutive scores of just 50 would see him add around $110K in a fortnight.

Justin Matamua: Injuries and suspensions have hammered the Wests Tigers forwards and Matamua is a key beneficiary. Handed his second start he could be an option for those looking for a really cheap 2RF option.
