NRL SuperCoach Sunday wrap, Magic Round: Rare prop cheapie comes from nowhere

Prop is proven as the toughest position for SuperCoach cheapies and the Panthers are generally one of the worst teams for cheapies. But we may have a bolt from the blue.

Magic moments from a record-breaking weekend in Brisbane

Did a rare FRF cheapie just emerge?

Prop is proven as the toughest position for SuperCoach cheapies given young guns are generally eased in with small minutes over time.

So the answer is impact, and Penrith’s Luron Patea has just that.

SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS

* Thomas Jenkins (126) - Almost 15,000 sold this week. Ouch. After two tries, he’s now set for more huge rises as the Panthers surge.

* Sua Faalogo (107) - The most dangerous player on the field in Storm v Raiders. He’d be a top 17 player at almost every other club. How good will he be when finally unleashed in a regular position?

* Nathan Cleary (134) - Stormed back to form with a Magic Round masterstroke. Cleary was everywhere for Penrith and had his hand in nearly every try scored. Ran the ball with purpose, made good decisions and executed to perfection.

* Luron Patea (81) - It’s very rare we get an FRF cheapie, but plenty may be looking for one in place of Royce Hunt and co. A try, linebreak and eight tackle busts in a game-turning display.

* Jacob Kiraz (137) - Close to a SuperCoach lock. Scored a hat-trick against a hapless Titans team. He must feel incredibly lucky to have Stephen Crichton on his inside. Crichton and Kiraz have formed a formidable partnership on the right side for the Bulldogs.

* Selwyn Cobbo (68) - Will be hard to shift from fullback. He was one of the rare Brisbane players to provide some fight and remained threatening with ball in hand.

* Savelio Tamale (74) – He’s been a popular sell over recent weeks but is a definite hold at least until the round 12 bye after notching another try.

* David Fifita (DNP) - Dropped for the clash but the Titans can’t afford to have the million-dollar man playing in the Queensland Cup for Ipswich for long. They need as much top-end talent as they can get.

* Beau Fermor (100) - Came into the round as the second most purchased player and notched two tries.

* Payne Haas (89) - Switched to an edge at stages in another captain-worthy showing, without quite eclipsing the backs in a high-scoring round.

* Tom Starling (41) – Not what we were hoping from a popular SuperCoach buy. His minutes have plummeted in recent weeks as Owen Pattie emerges.
