KFC NRL SuperCoach 2022 Round 11 wrap: Highs, lows and trade targets

The KFC SuperCoach Mastermind crunches the stats to help you answer the biggest trade issues of the round. ANALYSIS FOR EVERY GAME

Brisbane Broncos’ teen superstar Selwyn Cobbo put the Knights to the sword with the round 11 top score of 131 running rings around them with 12 tackle busts, four linebreaks and two tries. The harshest of lessons in patience for KFC SuperCoaches. Cobbo struggled with errors in the opening six rounds averaging just 33.3PPG but once his try drought ended in Round 7 against the Bulldogs things started to click in a phenomenal way. His past five games have seen him score nine tries at 80PPG with his value set to soar past $600k all after a good chunk of owners cut him loose when he dropped to $282k. In a week when few players posted big scores the 21% of KFC SuperCoaches with Cobbo are climbing the ranks.

Those who got hit with injuries went the other way with Tom Trbojevic, Jason Taumalolo and Siosifa Talakai posing the biggest headaches for owners in the week ahead.

Trbojevic missing the rest of the season finally makes the decision on him easy. He loses one last chunk of cash for owners and burns another valuable trade to send him on his way.

Pencil him in as the most owned player for 2023 already though with his price probably half what he started at this season.

A stack of exciting cheapies also emerged this week in almost perfect timing for trading in and around the tricky bye rounds and Origin period. Ezra Mam, Jacob Kiraz, Michael Molo, Xavier Savage and Trent Peoples are just some of the names to put on your watchlist.

On the captaincy front most players played it safe and got it right enough with Nicho Hynes 32% and Nathan Cleary 15% both posting scores in the 80s.

Here’s where we salute the centuries of the week but the list is a little shorter than usual in a low-scoring round. Joining Cobbo in triple figures were Hudson Young, 102, Jarome Luai, 102 and Reuben Garrick, 100.

Knights 12-36 Broncos

Highs: Selwyn Cobbo, 131, continued his incredible try scoring run with a double making it nine tries in five games. Last week the tries came from kicks and an intercept but this week he had four linebreaks and 12 tackle busts with his running game on song. The Broncos’ other right edge players Jordan Riki, 96, and Kotoni Staggs, 83, also found attacking stats. Riki scored his scored his first try of the season, had a linebreak, five tackle busts and 57 in base stats. Staggs picked up the kicking duties with Adam Reynolds out injured and slotted 6/7 goals on top of a power packed performance featuring six tackle busts, and a controversial linebreak and try assist.

Lows: Chris Randall, 28, has crept up in price every week until now and made $200k. If you’re still holding it’s time to sell. Leo Thompson, 15, a cheapie sitting in 9% of teams who is slowly losing value and minutes as the Knights forward pack returns to full strength. Bradman Best, 36, missed five tackles before going off with a dislocated elbow after 54 minutes.

Watchlist: Ezra Mam, 88, was impressive on debut with two try assists, two linebreaks, a linebreak assist, four tackle busts and 32 in base stats. He produced 64 attacking SuperCoach stats in one game compared to current five-eighth Tyson Gamble’s 90 in five games this season. The numbers suggest he should earn a starting spot sooner rather than later and when that happens he’s a must buy. Tyson Frizell, 78, scored a try, had a couple offloads and 54 in base stats. He’s averaged 67PPG when he’s played the full 80 minutes and could be a good pick up to cover the second bye if he misses an Origin call up. Kalyn Ponga, 78, showed signs of returning to form and sliced through for a try and linebreak. He also had five tackle busts, a couple offloads and kicked 2/2 goals. David Klemmer, 69, continued tossing out offloads for fun with another five to make it 14 in the past four weeks. He’s in fantastic form and has averaged 71PPG over the past four weeks. Patrick Carrigan, 65, had a massive 67 in base stats and two offloads with a couple errors and penalties conceded holding his score back. Lachlan Fitzgibbon, 60, was pretty much all base stats on the Knights left edge and could have gone large dropping a ball over the line when he could have scored.

Mitch Barnett, 54, moved to the centres when Best went off and missed seven tackles. He’ll be cheaper again next week with his -3 send off game still in his rolling average.

Tigers 36-22 Bulldogs

Highs: Ken Maumalo, 90, scored a double to make it eight tries in nine games this season. He’s still pretty cheap though because one of those games he was only on the field for a minute before failing a HIA. Joe Ofahengaue, 88, pumped out 57 in base stats in 65 minutes at lock and had some nice attacking touches with a try assist, linebreak assist, two tackle busts and two offloads. He’s getting good minutes and playing good footy with a five-round average of 68PPG helping him rise more than $150k in value this season. Dual position FRF/2RF and probably a few injuries away from the Queensland team he could be a safe option to plug into your forward rotation after the first bye round. Jeremy Marshall-King, 88, scored a try, had two linebreaks and busted six tackles. A nice score but plenty of better options in the hooker position.

Lows: Kelma Tuilagi, 17, played just 16 minutes after being pushed back to the bench. A definite sell for the 27% of coaches still holding him. Luciano Leilua, 28, followed up last week’s 34 with another disappointing score to lock in some price drops. He could be mid $400k after the first bye which would make him an intriguing option for second bye coverage and the run home. Bulldogs backs Jayden Okunbor, 11, and Jake Averillo, 18, would be lucky to hold their places given the form of Jacob Kiraz, more on him below.

Watchlist: Fa’amanu Brown, 87, returned to the NRL in spectacular fashion with two tries, two linebreaks and six tackle busts in 29 minutes coming off the bench to replace Jacob Liddle who failed a HIA. Jacob Kiraz, 85, was a late inclusion for the sick Josh Addo-Carr and again impressed in his second game of the season. He had a try, two linebreaks, seven tackle busts, three offloads and 26 in base stats. Should be the most bought player this round if the Bulldogs reward him with a starting spot, which he should when you look at the numbers of Okunbor and Averillo. Luke Garner, 84, made it three tries in three games but this round he was moved to the right backrow slot taking Tuilagi’s spot after a couple weeks in the centres. He had 51 in base stats, three tackle busts and a linebreak too. Matt Burton, 78, scored a try and has a nice run of form going with a three round average of 68PPG. The Bulldogs scored their most points in a game this season after Trent Barrett was sacked and if their attack does improve Burton should be the main beneficiary.

Eels 22-20 Sea Eagles

Highs: Reuben Garrick, 100, scored two tries, had five tackle busts, two offloads and 34 points from hit-ups in his second century in three weeks since he returned to the wing. Now with Tom Trbojevic injured again Garrick likely goes back to fullback where he’s averaged 63.5PPG in four games this season. In his seven games on the wing he’s averaged 62.4PPG. Will Penisini, 97, rewarded the 40% of owners who’ve held him with another run of price rises and big points. The Eels centre scored just his second try of the season as he piled on attacking points with two linebreaks, two offloads and eight tackle busts on top of 38 in base stats. Ryan Matterson, 91, started off the bench but came on early to play 65 minutes and smash out 63 in base stats, six offloads and two tackle busts. Vying with teammate Isaiah Papali’i, 72, as the best forward in SuperCoach right now with a three-round average of 96PPG.

Lows: Sean Keppie, 4, was sin-binned. Josh Schuster, 28, played 33 minutes off the bench after missing last week. Mitchell Moses, 43, was sin-binned and missed five tackles.

Watchlist: Christian Tuipulotu, 72, had a massive 39 points from hit-ups and scored his fourth try in five weeks. At just 13% ownership he’s the cheapie who got away from a lot of SuperCoaches this season. Martin Taupau, 51, played his longest minutes of the season (45) and produced his highest score after struggling through the start of the season and dropping $150k in price.

Dragons 24-18 Warriors

Highs: Shaun Johnson, 96, had a try, linebreak two try assists, a try contribution, three tackle busts, a forced dropout, two offloads and 28 in base stats for his best SuperCoach score since Round 10 in 2020. Finding form and has the struggling Knights next, then bye coverage. Cody Ramsey, 94, impressed at fullback with a try, try assist, two linebreaks, a linebreak assist and five tackle busts. Much better than his first three games of the season where he averaged 18.3PPG. Zac Lomax, 92, finally delivered the big score he’d been on the verge of all season with two tries, a linebreak, five tackle busts and 4/5 goals. Talatau Amone, 83, has established himself in the starting team after a spell on the bench which saw his ownership drop from 45% to 15%. He’s putting up a stack of SuperCoach points through his running game and rewarded patient owners with a big score including two try assists, a linebreak and five tackle busts.

Lows: Mikaele Ravalawa, 33, still hasn’t scored a try since the opening round. Jack Bird, 34, missed six tackles and made two errors.

Watchlist: Michael Molo, 69, had a try on debut and 44 in base stats in 47 minutes. Shapes as the perfect downgrade option for a FRF in round 14. Viliami Vailea, 60, scored two tries to secure some much needed price rises before he gets sold in round 14. Tohu Harris, 56, was all base stats and played 70 minutes in his second game back from injury.

Cowboys 36-6 Storm

Highs: Jeremiah Nanai, 91, scored a double to make it 10 tries from 11 games this season. Only Ryan Papenhuyzen has more tries a ridiculous stat for a teenage backrower with 15 career games. Aside from the tries, Nanai had 43 in base stats, three tackle busts and a linebreak. Reece Robson, 89, was a player we pointed out the past few weeks and he delivered big time with a try, linebreak, try assist and linebreak assist. The only worry now is will Jake Granville return to the bench and take his gametime with the Cowboys copping a few injuries. Tom Gilbert, 86, had a career best SuperCoach score with 55 in base stats, a try and a linebreak.

Lows: Kyle Feldt, 5, was injured after 15 minutes. Jason Taumalolo, 16, went off injured after 26 minutes. Xavier Coates, 16, at least doubled his tally of 8 from last week but the 26% of teams still holding him probably wished they cashed out at $595k after Round 9

Watchlist: Peta Hiku, 70, had 41 in base stats and a nice try assist where he switched from the left to right side of the field to make the telling pass. Hamiso Tabui-Fidow, 12, replaced Feldt and played 65 minutes. He’s now priced under $300k and should make a permanent move into the starting team. If he misses Origin could be a real weapon for the bye round.

Roosters 12-32 Panthers

Highs: Jarome Luai, 102, had a quiet few rounds taking a back seat as Nathan Cleary returned from injury but has been really strong the past two weeks. He notched points across a stack of categories with two tries, a linebreak, six tackle busts, two forced dropouts and three offloads. James Fisher-Harris, 89, scored his first try of the season and had five tackle busts on top of his usual 50 in base stats. Nathan Cleary, 84, punched out a big score without much fuss. He had a try assist, 6/6 goals, a forced dropout, linebreak assist and 35 in base stats.

Lows: Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, 32, was sin-binned and conceded two penalties. Joseph Suaalii, 26, was not surprisingly, kept quiet by the stingy Panthers after scoring five tries in his previous three games.

Watchlist: Angus Crichton, 74, had one of his best games of the season with 60 in base stats, three tackle busts and three offloads. Is still $100k cheaper than his starting price and if he misses Origin should be snapped up. Nat Butcher, 69, was expected to take the injured Victor Radley’s spot in the middle but ended up on the edge for 80 minutes. Got through a mountain of work and looks like a good buy to cover the first bye round. Roosters halves Luke Keary, 59, and Sam Walker, 58, put up impressive scores against the Panthers. Either could be an option for the bye round with Walker having the higher ceiling. Brian To’o, 29, didn’t get through as much work as usual and his price is coming down.

Rabbitohs 12-32 Raiders

Highs: Hudson Young, 102, had a try, try assist, two linebreaks, a linebreak assist and 38 in base stats. Nick Cotric, 84, had his best score since Round 11 last year with a try, three linebreaks, eight tackle busts and two offloads. Damien Cook, 81, had 51 in base stats and produced a great individual try slicing through and busting tackles. Josh Papalii, 80, scored a try for the second week in a row. In his 250th game for the Raiders he also had five tackle busts.

Lows: Rabbitohs Tevita Tatola, 0, failed a HIA after the first tackle. Taane Milne, 8, also failed a HIA after 27 minutes. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, 22, went off injured at halftime. Zac Woolford, 15, played just 26 minutes, not good signs for the people who rushed him in after 60 in his debut the week before.

Watchlist: Xavier Savage, 50, replaced Nicoll-Klokstad at half time and showed what he can do from the fullback position with a try and linebreak. If he lands the position for a good spell now he could be worth a trade to cover the bye. Trent Peoples, 41, played 80 minutes on the left edge and was solid but gave away three penalties. If he holds that role he’s probably worth bringing in and plenty of coaches went early on him.

Titans 18-25 Sharks

Highs: Blayke Brailey, 91, had 49 in base stats and some nice attacking stats including a linebreak, try assist, five tackle busts and a linebreak assist. Esan Marsters, 84, playing his second game of the season, had a massive 48 in base stats for a CTW, four tackle busts, an offload, linebreak and try. At just $330k he could tempt a few coaches with potential price rises and bye coverage. Nicho Hynes, 82, was again in the thick of everything for the Sharks with a try, try assist, 4/4 goals, a forced dropout, field goal, offload, linebreak assist and 32 in base stats. There were a few negatives though with a last minute sin bin, two kicks dead and a couple penalties conceded keeping him from another century.

Lows: Siosifa Talakai, 43, went off injured with 11 minutes to go. Wade Graham, 31, and Teig Wilton, 33, shared minutes on the left and neither is scoring or playing all that well in that scenario.

Watchlist: Jarrod Wallace, 82, scored two tries to make it three in two weeks. You probably don’t need a cash grab at this point of the season but he’ll probably get a couple price rises with big minutes in the bye round with Moeaki Fotuaika and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui likely in the Qld team. Lachlan Miller, 82, had a fantastic debut with a try, linebreak, nine tackle busts and 34 points from hit-ups. Will Kennedy returns from suspension next week so don’t rush to trade him in. Connor Tracey, 81, scored a try, busted five tackles and had 48 in base stats. Jayden Campbell, 66, followed up last week’s 71 with another impressive display this time with 33 in base stats and array of attacking stats. Cameron McInnes, 68, punched out 54 in base stats in 51 minutes.
