Five things we learned for SuperCoach NRL in Roosters vs Broncos clash

The Broncos have started 2025 off with a bang, after scoring 50-points against the Roosters. And a host of SuperCoach stars impressed. Here are five things we learned from the Broncos v Roosters clash.

"We want to get home"

The Brisbane Broncos have started 2025 off with a bang, after scoring 50-points against the Sydney Roosters.

And SuperCoaches will have loved what they saw as a host of guns fired and popular cheapies impressed.

See the big takeaways below and scroll down to replay our live coverage.

FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM ROOSTERS VS BRONCOS

1. THE BRONCOS ARE THE REAL DEAL

While they had their moments in 2024, it was largely a season to forget as they finished poorly and missed out on finals. But the Michael Maguire era has begun in stellar fashion, with a host of bold selection decisions paying off remarkably. The Broncos are back, and more importantly, have a host of VERY SuperCoach relevant players.

2. PAYNE HAAS IS A MASSIVE POD … FOR NOW

Despite being the best front-rower in SuperCoach, Payne Haas is in just 11.4% of teams heading into Round 1. But starting next week, SuperCoaches will be scrambling to get him into their teams after putting in a massive performance, ending the match on a game-high 108 points before countbacks.

3. SUPERCOACHES NAILED THE CHEAPIES

Heading into this game, a host of cheapies from both teams were among the most popular players in SuperCoach. And they have absolutely nailed it. Robert Toia (62% owned) was the highest scoring Roosters player, with 87 points courtesy of two try assists, Gehamat Shibasaki (30% owned) scored 90, Jack Gosiewski (20.5% owned) got 66 points, Kobe Hetherington (24% owned) got 57 points, and the list goes on!

4. THE ROOSTERS SEASON MAY BE OVER ALREADY

They may have only played on game so far in 2025, but their season may be done and dusted already, after conceding 50-points to the Broncos. We all know the stats, no side has ever conceded 50-points in a regular season match and gone on to win that year, so the Roosters will now have to defy history if they are to win the premiership in 2025. More importantly, unless they can fix their attacking woes, they may be a team to avoid for SuperCoach purposes.

5. REECE WALSH IS STILL RISKY

While he finished the game on an impressive 92 points, Reece Walsh has shown that he still carries some risk for the 18% of SuperCoaches who own him. While he ended up with a try and a try assist, Walsh struggled early in the game and looked set for a pretty average score. Thankfully he does have a pretty solid draw to start the season, but he is still largely dependant on attacking stats to get the big scores.
