State of Origin: Jarome Luai refuses to apologise for taunting unconscious Selwyn Cobbo

If Jarome Luai wasn’t already Public Enemy No.1 in Queensland, his post-Origin comments about taunting an unconscious Selwyn Cobbo will confirm that status.

Jarome Luai insists he has no need to apologise for taunting a stricken Selwyn Cobbo at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

He says he spoke to Cobbo after the game and he was fine. Nothing to see here, according to Luai.

That is unlikely to wash with Queensland legends and supporters, who have seen this movie before.

Last year, Maroons legends shared an image of Luai standing over Felise Kafausi and taunting the Queensland back rower.

No doubt, Luai’s latest act will receive the same treatment from the Maroons, although you could mount a compelling argument this time was worse.

While Kaufusi was in no trouble last year, Cobbo was knocked out on Wednesday night before he was eventually taken from the field on the back of a medicab.

He was later cleared of serious injury but Luai insisted he had no reason to apologise.

“I don’t think I have anything to apologise for,” Luai said.

“There wasn’t any harm. I didn’t touch him. I actually didn’t know he was knocked out. But that’s Origin, heat of the moment stuff and I play with a lot of passion.

“I spoke to him (Cobbo) after the game and he was all good. So good to see that.”

Luai was labeled a “grub” in the aftermath to the incident but he dismissed those accusations on Thursday morning.

“They’ve always called me that (grub),” Luai said.

“So that’s the fans of the sport and you need to take into consideration they’re not out there on the field.”
