From Andrew Johns’ masterclasses to the fleet-footed work of Anthony Minichiello out the back and even a player who will run out on Wednesday night.

The current crop of NSW players have nominated a host of big name’s as their favourite Blues of all-time as they get behind The Sunday Telegraph’s favourite players campaign.

Johns’s nomination comes as no surprise given the 23 appearances he made for the Blues before becoming an Immortal.

NSW prop Jake Trbojevic grew up a massive Newcastle fan for just one reason.

“Joey Johns,” Trbojevic said. “I was a Newcastle supporter because of him and he was my favourite Blues player.

“His return game in 2005, game two. He set up a try for Danny Buderus, who can forget that? I loved Bedsy (Buderus) too because I was a Knights fan.”

Luckily for Trbojevic he does not have to look too far to meet his favourite players. Johns and Buderus are part of the Blues coaching staff.

Things might get awkward in the NSW camp after Damien Cook (R) nominated someone other than Danny Buderus as his favourite Blue.

It comes as no surprise that Johns featured again and his combination with Buderus highlighted.

Blues hooker Damien Cook labelled Johns as his most favoured Blue.

“We’re lucky to have him here,” Cook said. “There are a few Origin memories which stand out. I remember when Bedsy passed him the ball and Joey snuck in behind the defence and passed it back for Bedsy to score. I remember Joey kicking the ball for 40 metres out and hitting the posts for Mini (Minichiello) to score and if you ask him he did it on purpose.”

Rookie winger Brian To’o has stuck solid with the outside backs. In fact it is two Roosters no. 1 which To’o has heaped praise on.

The first being Minichiello who scored eight tries in his 11 matches for NSW.

“Minichiello was one of the best players and my favourite,” To’o said.

Perhaps surprisingly, To’o has also nominated Blues skipper James Tedesco as another one of the players he loves watching.

“Teddy (Tedesco) is one of the best,” To’o said. “Watching those guys play and to be standing alongside one of them and having them as the captain is pretty special.

“I’m looking forward to playing alongside him on Wednesday.”
