State of Origin 2020: Josh Addo-Carr confident of playing, Blues coaches keen on Papenhuyzen

The Foxx trained in socks but NSW flyer Josh Addo-Carr won’t miss Origin III, while there’s a push for Ryan Papenhuyzen to play too.

NSW winger Josh “The Foxx” Addo-Carr was rested from training with the Blues on Saturday, but the Dally M winger of the year has declared he’ll be fit for Wednesday night’s blockbuster in Brisbane.

And possible NSW supersub Ryan Papenhuyzen has suggested he could miss out on a bench spot for the decider on Wednesday night by offering, “you don’t really change a winning formula, do you?”.

All eyes were on Addo-Carr at Blues training at Wyong on Saturday after the Storm premiership winner suffered a toe injury in Origin II.

He has been kept on ice in the countdown to the State of Origin decider against Queensland at Suncorp Stadium, jogging lightly without boots on as the rest of the Blues got to work.

Blues shadow winger Nick Cotric filled in for Addo-Carr at training on Saturday — however, Addo-Carr said there was no need for concern.

“I pulled up sweet — ready to go,’’ Addo-Carr said.

“It’s more of a precaution (not training). Monday I should be sweet to go and I’ll be sweet to play.’’

“My toe got caught in the wrong position (during Origin II)...it was five minutes into the game.

“It swelled up a bit, it felt sweet at first but as the game went on it started swelling up.

“I’ll be ready to go soon.’’

Named as the Blues 18th man after recovering from a calf injury that ruled him out of Origin I and II, Papenhuyzen and utility hooker Cameron McInnes are under consideration for selection by coach Brad Fittler.

“It’s a big decision,’’ Fittler said.

“When you talk to the staff they are all a bit different and have their version about how the game will happen. A lot of the staff are fans of his (Papenhuyzen).

However, asked about the likelihood of McInnes earning an Origin debut, Fittler added: “If you had to give points out for best trainers and most committed Cam McInnes just wins.

“He is a machine. There are some fans of his as well.”

Papenhuyzen said he could understand if he was to miss out on selection despite his incredible season that included a Clive Churchill Medal.

“The calf is sweet, its just a matter of what he wants to do with the side,’’ Papenhuyzen said.

“It’s a pretty good headache for Freddy (Fittler) to have.

“You don’t really change a winning formula, do you? So I understand if its not my time this week.

“Hopefully in the future I get a go, but at the moment I just really want us to win the Origin series.

“To be named 18th man, I think that is something to be really proud of.’’
