South Sydney star Jai Arrow had to be held back from an altercation with a Bulldogs fan after the Bunnies’ 32-0 thrashing on Friday.

Police became involved in the incident, which occurred in the dying minutes of the game when Arrow was sitting on the bench and took exception to a comment from the crowd.

A record 65,305 fans were packed into Accor Stadium for the Good Friday clash and the vast majority of them were there to support the Bulldogs.

The 29-year-old Arrow walked towards the fan before officials from South Sydney managed to quell the situation.

Triple M radio was calling the match when the incident was spotted by sideline reporter Michael Chammas.

“There’s a fight on the sidelines here boys. Jai Arrow and a Bulldogs supporter,” Chammas reported.

“Jai Arrow has had to be held back by South Sydney, (assistant coach) John Sutton’s involved, this is real drama on the sideline.

“Jai Arrow has threatened to punch someone, this is explosive stuff on the sideline.

“I assume someone has thrown something at Jai Arrow because he has exploded, he’s threatened to start a fight with the crowd.”

Bunnies coach Wayne Bennett and skipper Cody Walker were asked about the incident after the game, but didn’t have any information.

“It would be good if he got upset on the football field,” Bennett quipped about Arrow after their heavy defeat.

“I don’t know anything about it.”

Walker added: “I didn’t hear it. I was next to him but (there’s) 65,000 people here.”

Chammas continued reporting on Triple M, stating there was a chaotic scene as police and officials tried to work out who was involved.

“The police are here now guys, they’re trying to remove someone from the venue, they’re trying to figure it out,” he said.

“The crowd is booing the police and saying they’ve got the wrong person.

“Jai Arrow was absolutely livid, he was ready to start a fight with the crowd, he was furious.

“The police are trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on.

“South Sydney have moved away and Jai Arrow has taken his seat back on the bench.

“But it looks as though the person who Jai Arrow was trying to fight has explained to the police that he was just making a love heart symbol towards Jai Arrow.

“I don’t know what’s set it off but I’ve never seen Jai Arrow like that before.”

There were reports the police spoke to a Bulldogs fan, who was later allowed to return to his seat.

Former Bulldog James Graham, who showed plenty of his own passion during his NRL career, discussed the allegations on Fox League after the game.

“Jai Arrow is a passionate individual, his team’s just been beaten 32-0 and look I can understand how and why he would react,” he said.

“But at the end of the day, you’ve just got to put your head down and cop your medicine.

“It’s their time, it’s their day in the sun and the fans are going to let you know all about it as difficult as that is.

“I know I’d show a lack of restraint but we don’t know what’s happened here … Jai should be the ‘better person’ and just cop that.

“But I mean, come on.”
