Seven Queensland schoolboy players to watch in this year’s Allan Langer Cup

Queensland’s premier schoolboy rugby league competition is famous for producing NRL talent, including superstars Cameron Smith and Greg Inglis. Here’s seven standouts to keep an eye on this season.

Who is the fastest man in Rugby League?

Queensland’s top schoolboy talents have their best chance to impress scouts and kickstart their NRL dreams when the Allan Langer Cup gets underway next week.

The competition has produced some of the modern-day greats, including Darius Boyd (Palm Beach), Cameron Smith (Marsden) and Greg Inglis (Wavell).

Now, the search turns to finding Queensland’s next superstar — and there’s plenty of potential.

Reigning Allan Langer Cup and NRL schoolboy champions Palm Beach Currumbin boast two standouts in co-captains Jed Edwards and Toby Sexton, who will lead their title defence in a six-team competition featuring Keebra Park State High, Wavell State High, Marsden State High, Ipswich State High and St Mary’s.

Second-rowers Teui Robati (Marsden) and Valu Lisati (Ipswich) are others to watch, while talented centre Blake Cesari (St Mary’s) is already on the Broncos’ radar.

Keebra Park look to have produced another future star in playmaker Reece Walsh and Wavell skipper Will Parslow is another young gun worth keeping an eye on.

Queensland School Sport life member Phil Hall has more than 45 years experience in overseeing school rugby league and values the Allan Langer Cup above all else.

“As you can see from the current Broncos squad, a few of those boys have actually been through this competition,” Hall said.

“It’s a great breeding ground for our players and I’m sure that it’s made better men of the boys who have played in it.”
