MANLY have made yet another signing with out-of-favour Canterbury prop Lloyd Perrett joining the club on a three-year deal.
The 21-year-old, who is the younger brother of former Kiwi international Sam, made his NRL back in 2014 and went on to play 24 games for the Bulldogs.
This season, however, he fell down the pecking order at the club and made just two first grade appearances.
Perrett is still considered to be one of the competition’s best young forwards, so much so, he was named in Kevin Walters’ Queensland emerging Origin squad on Friday.
The former Junior Kangaroo was on a off-season holiday when Manly’s head of football, Bob Fulton, came knocking.
“Lloyd is a great acquisition for us. He is another big, mobile forward who can play with the ball,’’ Fulton said.
“It is a great pick up this late in the pre-season.”
Perrett is the latest player to join the Sea Eagles, with the likes of Blake Green, Jonathan Wright, Shaun Lane, Cameron Cullen, Akuila Uate, Curtis Sironen, Brian Kelly and Kevin Locke all making the move to the Northern Beaches this pre-season.
He took to social media overnight to announce his departure from Belmore.
“I'm very grateful for the relationships and support I've received over the past 5 years from my teammates, I have friendships that will last far longer than my career and learnt a thing or two that will hopefully help me in it,” Perrett posted.
Perrett will add much-needed punch to the Manly pack that has lost Jamie Buhrer, Siosaia Vave, Liam Knight and Josh Starling in the off-season.
“It’s a great opportunity going to Manly. I was really impressed with Trent Barrett and Bob Fulton’s honesty in what they had to say, and the vision they had for me as a player,’’ Perrett said upon joining Manly.
“I made some great friendships that will last forever at the Bulldogs and I hope I can do the same here at Manly.
“Manly are keen to progress my football and allow me every opportunity to play NRL.
“Hopefully with that opportunity, I can help the team to the finals over the next three seasons.
“I’m still learning my trade as a prop and Manly have some great young players who I’ve played with in my juniors, so it would be great to develop and create something special with them. It may lead to my dream of playing representative football”.
