Rabbitohs v Broncos: Five things we learned

James Roberts looks out of sorts and has lost his attacking spark as rumours of a potential switch to South Sydney persist. Five things we learned from the Rabbitohs' win over Brisbane.

Brisbane management must be held accountable for the side's 2-6 opening and livewire playmaker Cody Walker is ready for a NSW Origin debut. Five things we learned from the Rabbitohs' win over the Broncos.

1. Broncos management should face the music for Brisbane's woeful start to the season. Their top-four hopes are shot already after just eight rounds and they face a fight to make the playoffs. It is simply not acceptable for the Broncos to be 2-6 when Anthony Seibold inherited a squad that was top-four material. Sacked Broncos coach Wayne Bennett would have loved watching every point as his Bunnies bolted to a 24-0 half-time lead.

2. Super coach Wayne Bennett is sailing towards an eighth premiership in a remarkable career. There's still a long way to go but on this form the Rabbitohs are specials for the top four and that will give Bennett an almighty platform to launch a title assault. The Rabbitohs equalled their biggest win over the Broncos dating back to a 44-12 rout in 2009.

3. Brisbane teenager Tom Dearden produced an impressive debut. At 18 years and 50 days, Dearden was the youngest starting halfback in Broncos history but the young gun was not fazed by the occasion. He wasn't afraid of contact and clearly showed he is a player of the future.

4. Souths five-eighth Cody Walker is ready for a NSW Origin debut. Walker was on the verge of joining the Broncos two years ago but Souths must be relieved he stayed loyal. Walker scored two tries and set-up another and would thoroughly deserve a maiden Blues jumper.

5. Broncos centre James Roberts has lost his way at Red Hill. Roberts was badly caught out in defence and speculation is rife he is considering re-uniting with Bennett at Souths. The Jet looks out of sorts and has lost his attacking spark.
