PRIDE fullback Linc Port hopes to earn his first representative jersey this weekend as the next step towards becoming a better player.

The in-form flyer is a hot favourite to earn a Queensland Residents’ backline spot for next week’s clash with NSW when coach Aaron Zimmerle names his side on Sunday night.

Port, who has been one of the Pride’s standouts this year, admitted he had been thinking about whether he would get the opportunity to represent his state in the annual showdown.

If he does, he believes it will only make him a better player for his club.

“If I made it, I would be pretty excited,’’ he said. “It would be a massive learning curve for me.

“To be with the other top 16 players, you can learn off them and see their different playing styles.

“It would help me mature as a player and adjust my game. It would help with my game awareness.’’

The 24-year-old, who had previously been contracted to Wests Tigers, said his first focus was helping the Pride creep further up the Intrust Super Cup ladder by beating Wynnum Manly on Sunday.

Although the Seagulls have only one win this season, Port said they were still one of the toughest sides in the competition.

“No matter how well or bad they’re going, they’re always a tough team to beat,” he said.

“They’re really physical and a big side. We just have to be smart about how we approach them.”
